Chapter 7:
I looked all around me, searching for some kind of object that I could use to cut the rope that bound my hands together. There was nothing.
“Boys, let’s go,” Nash said. “I need to go help my little brother.”
Andrew shot me a sympathetic look and I just glared at him. He was working with Nash this entire time and he has the nerve to feel sympathy for me? That’s just a bunch of bull.
The door to the building slammed shut and I flinched involuntarily. I seriously cannot hate anyone more than I hate Nash right now.
Think…think…think…what can I do to get out of here? I thought.
I sighed. Kimmy would know what to do. She was always so level headed. There was only one time where she got really mad at me and that was when I told her that I was dating Tommy.
“Kimmy, I have something to tell you,” I told my sister, unsure of her reaction.
My older sister walked from her room to mine and sat down on my bed. “You look like you’re about to pass out. What’s up?”
“Um, I really don’t know how you’re going to take this, but, um, I’m dating Tommy.”
Kimmy’s face fell and I knew what I had done was wrong. I knew this was a bad idea. I knew I should have rejected Tommy. I knew all this, yet I still accepted. Why was I such a bad sister?
“Kimmy…” I began.
“Don’t! You knew I liked him. You knew this and yet you still decided to date him. How could you?” she yelled.
“I’m so sorry,” I cried. “I really like him and it just…happened.”
“Sorry isn’t going to cut it this time, Samantha,” Kimmy spat.
I had never seen Kimmy that mad, especially never at me. She didn’t talk to me for nearly a month. By the time she was talking to me again, I was close to breaking up with Tommy. I hated not having my sister there to talk to me and so I was willing to break up with the guy I convinced myself I was in love with.
She told me she had overreacted and that Tommy and I deserved to be together. But I don’t think that was true. When that person tackled Nash that day; now I know it was Tommy, I don’t think he was doing it to protect me or Jesse and Jason. He hadn’t looked at me the way he used to. He looked at Kimmy that way. I think he tackled Nash because he could have saved her and he didn’t.
There will forever be a part of me that believes Tommy loved Kimmy more than me. Whether it’s true or not, I’ll never know. But it will always be in the back of my mind.
I hadn’t realized I was crying until a small hand wiped the tears away. I looked up and a young boy, maybe just 9 years old, was standing there. He gave me a cute smile and giggled. The smile that appeared on my face was involuntary.
“Why are you crying?” he asked.
“I was thinking about my older sister,” I told him. “What are you doing here?”
“My daddy dropped me off and told me to come keep you company,” he said. “My name is Landon.”
“Well, Landon. My name is Samantha,” I smiled. “Do you think you could untie me?”
“Daddy said not to. He said you would run away and that would make him very mad,” Landon explained.
“What’s your dad’s name, sweetie?”
“Nash,” the boy answered.
I paled a little. “How about you unite me and I will stay here with you. I promise.”
Landon thought about it and nodded. He undid the rope and I slid down to the floor where he proceeded to sit on my lap. As much as I wanted to run, I knew two things. 1) Nash or Andrew or whoever else was friends with them would be back soon and 2) I was not leaving Landon here knowing that he was Nash’s son.
“Tommy, please come find me,” I prayed quietly.
My eyes wandered around the room; looking for something. I looked at my smashed phone and sighed. I flinched when the door slammed open and a very angry looking Nash stalked in. This was going to end badly.
“Daddy mad,” Landon whispered. “Not good.”
Smart kid…
