When you woke up the next morning, you found yourself tucked into bed, a strong arm wrapped around your waist. When you took a peek over your shoulder you found Wakatoshi asleep next to you on top of the sheets.
You were about to settle back down to get some more sleep when your eye fell on your smartphone. It was late, very late.
"You're going to be late!" You exclaimed as you sat up quickly, startling Wakatoshi awake in the process. You quickly grabbed some new clothes from your bag as he ran a hand through his hair, trying to find his bearings.
"I'll be right out." You told him as you disappeared into the bathroom to take the quickest shower in your life. When you left the bathroom, Wakatoshi took your place. You heard the shower run and you felt bad for him that he didn't have a change of clothes.
You made sure that you had everything you needed before he emerged back from your bathroom. "I'm sorry that you have to wear the same clothes you slept in." You told him apologetically.
"That's nothing you should apologize for." He simply said as he scanned the room for his wallet and phone.
"I don't know, if you had gone back to your own hotel, you could-" You were interrupted by him kissing you.
"Even if I had to spent the next year wearing these clothes, I wouldn't go back." He said as he took your hand in his and pulled you along out of the door. You looked down as he intertwined his fingers with yours and noticed he was wearing your wristband.
You had an obvious spring in your step as the both of you hurried towards his hotel, however as you arrived, you saw the familiar bus and the commotion around it and an unsettling feeling settled in your stomach. Unconsciously you tightened your hold on Wakatoshi's hand as Tendou approached the two of you.
Tendou looked from Wakatoshi to you and back. "Did you two just shower?"
Wakatoshi nodded and simply said: "Yes.", which made Tendou raise his eyebrows in approval.
"Not together!" You added, knowing very well where Tendou's mind went.
"Hmmmh." Tendou grinned. "But you did sleep together, right?"
"Yes." Wakatoshi replied again and you couldn't help but hit his arm.
"Not like that!" You clarified, and then turned to Wakatoshi. "If you're going to answer his questions then at least give him enough information."
Tendou just kept looking at the two of you with the biggest grin on his face as Wakatoshi apologized to you.
"I packed your bag and put all your stuff in the cargo hold already by the way, you're welcome." Tendou spoke to Wakatoshi, pointing at the bus where some familiar faces were hanging around.
Wakatoshi thanked him and the three of you started the short distance to where the bus was parked in front of the hotel.
Most of the players and entourage were already seated and you laughed as you saw Nishinoya wave at you from behind the window. You waved back and wondered if you would be able to see Oikawa to wave goodbye to him as well.
As Tendou made his way up the steps into the bus you started thinking about what would be the appropriate way to say goodbye. A kiss in front of all those people seemed a bit much, a hug then? You had the feeling Wakatoshi was not one to indulge in public displays of affection too much, but on the other hand he had been holding hands with you the entire time.
You were pulled from your musings though when Wakatoshi followed Tendou up the steps, pulling you along in the process. Flabbergasted you followed him and sat down in the spot he indicated to you.
He sat down next to you and you turned to him, confusion clearly written on your face.
"I told you I'd stay with you as long as possible, didn't I?" He clarified and you felt your face heat up at his words. You buried your face in his shoulder from embarrassment.
"Wakatoshi-kun? What in Volleyball Jesus' name is going on?" Came Tendou's voice from above, making both you and Wakatoshi look up.
"I'm taking her to the airport with us." He simply replied and Tendou raised a skeptical eyebrow.
"And then? Sneak her into your luggage? Your carry-on?" Tendou asked, making Wakatoshi look at him as if he had grown a second head.
"That would never work." He replied, after which Tendou sighed and sat back down in his seat behind you.
You spent the hour long bus ride talking with Wakatoshi and the others about things like what they would be doing once they got home in Japan, what their volleyball plans were from now on and more small talk.
In the airport you tagged along with everyone until you reached the gate to security. After it being delayed for so long you had almost started to deny the fact that there would be a point at which you could no longer follow Wakatoshi.
But here it was, without a plane ticket you could not continue.
You reluctantly released his hand, which you had been holding the whole time, and mustered a smile when you turned to face him. "So, I guess this is it. I had a great time."
The others passed you by as you stood there trying to say goodbye.
"Me too, I'm glad you decided to stay until the end." He told you.
"Yeah, best decision ever!" You laughed, but your expression betrayed the weight of the moment. "Call me when you land okay?"
"I will." He promised. "When is your flight?"
"Tomorrow, at noon." You told him, sensing that your conversation was coming to a close.
"Let me know when you land safely." He told you, shifting his bag from one shoulder to the other.
"Yeah, of course." You told him, trying to keep a smile on your face.
"Ushijima-san!" Someone called out from further ahead and the both of you noticed that he was the only one that hadn't proceeded towards security yet.
"I have to go, I'll see you soon." He said and turned to leave.
"Yeah, see you." You said to his back. Tears started pooling in your eyes the moment he had turned and you watched with blurry vision as he almost made his way through the gate but then stopped.
He stood there for a moment and you wiped your eyes to better see what was going on. He turned around and without further hesitation marched back to you.
As soon as you noticed, your feet started moving in his direction as well.
You collided in a hug, your tears flowing freely now.
He pulled back a moment and rummaged through his bag. Pushing a piece of clothing into your hands he told you: "Don't forget me okay?"
You couldn't contain a sob before replying. "Of course not." How could you after last week? After yesterday?
He wiped the tears of your face, kissed you one last time and then he was really gone.
You watched his back until he disappeared behind a corner and then you turned around to figure out how you would be able make your way back to your hotel.
As you were walking you held out the shirt he had given you to take a look at what it was. The shirt was the one he had worn yesterday during the match. The one he won the world title in.
You couldn't help but laugh as you pressed it close to your chest. "I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to just give these away, you goofball."
