Hello! This chapter is longer than the others, and please tell me what you think!
After a few moments of awkward silence, James says, "So should we go to Dumbledore's office now?"
"Oh yeah!" I say, forgetting what we were here to do. "What do you think he's going to talk to us about?" James says, trying to start up a conversation. "Probably just our responsibilities as heads. And hopefully he explains why he picked you." He grins at me and I notice he has a dimple in his left cheek when he smiles. I never noticed that before. "I hope this is quick though. I need to talk to the girls." I say as we arrive outside Professor Dumbledore's office.
"Peppermint toads." I say and the stone gargoyle leaps to the side. "How did you know the password?" James asks, bewildered. I sigh and roll my eyes. "Did you read the letter Professor Dumbledore sent?" "Part of it." James grins at me as we walk up the stairs and wait outside the door. James knocks twice and we hear Professor Dumbledore say, "Come in."
We open the door and I gasp. The room is decorated beautifully! There are silver instruments littered around the desk, bookshelves that reach the ceiling, paintings of all the headmasters of Hogwarts, and a bright orange and red phoenix in the corner of the room. I notice that James doesn't look nearly as surprised as I am, probably owing to the fact that he's been here many times from getting in trouble. "Mr. Potter, Ms. Evans. Please take a seat." Professor Dumbledore points to the two chairs in front of his desk and we sit down.
"First, I would like to say congratulations! Being Head Girl and Head Boy is highly prestigious and I have no doubt you will both do very well at this job. Ms. Evans, I know that you are probably wondering why I have chosen Mr. Potter to be Head Boy." Professor Dumbledore turns to me and I nod.
James looks from Professor Dumbledore to me and says, "Yes, she is definitely wondering why you chose me." Professor Dumbledore continues. "I have chosen Mr. Potter because I have seen that he has matured greatly over the last year. You are both very loyal to your friends and I believe that you are both extremely responsible. Moving on from that, I'm going to need you to make the schedules for when you and the prefects will be doing your patrols. You will also be called upon to plan certain events and parties here at Hogwarts but we don't need to discuss that at the moment. Another thing you need to do is plan monthly meetings with the prefects; to meet up with them and see how they are doing. There are a few more things you will need to do, but we can talk about those at a later time. And lastly, you will not be staying in your dorms with the other students."
At this, James and I exchange a look of surprise. "You will be sharing a common room and a bathroom and you will each have your own dorm. Your stuff has already been sent there and once you arrive, speak to the portrait. The password right now is Gryffindor, but you will need to change your password once you get there. The room is in the same hallway as the regular Gryffindor common room. Any questions?"
James and I both shake our heads no. Professor Dumbledore smiles. "Then you may go." James and I get up and walk out the door without another word.
"Wow, our own room. Huh." James says and runs his hand through his hair. Why does his hair have to be so messy?
Ugh. "Yeah. I'm going to miss the girls." We arrive at our room. "Gryffindor. And we'd like to change the password." I say to the portrait of a young Bathilda Bagshot. She smiles at me and says, "What would you like it to be?" I look at James. "How about... Quidditch pitch?" I roll my eyes. Typical. "Ok I guess." "You sure?" He asks. He seems to genuinely want my opinion. "Yeah, it's fine." I nod my head and the portrait swings open and we step inside.
I gasp. "Wow!" The common room is similar to the Gryffindor one. There are red and gold blankets and chairs. A roaring fireplace, bookshelves filled with books, two wooden desks, and so much more. "This place is amazing!" I run up the stairs and into my room.
"Oh. My. Merlin!" I yell with delight. I have a ginormous bed with yellow blankets and pillows. I have many bookshelves, a fluffy white pouf, an enormous closet with a mirror, a small desk in the corner, paintings on the walls, posters of muggle bands and quidditch, and small vases of flowers all around the room.
I run out of my room and downstairs into the common room. James isn't there anymore; I guess he went to explore his room. I walk into the bathroom and it is beautiful! Everything is white marble and it's huge! I love this place. "James! Where are you?" I call out. "I'm in my room!" He replies. I run up the stairs to his room and knock on the closed door. "You can come in." He says. I open the door and see him staring around the room in awe. "Wow." I say.
He has a big bed with red covers and pillows. His walls are covered in pictures of him and his family, quidditch, and more. He also has a desk and a regular sized closet. "It's very... you." He laughs lightly. "Yeah, it is." "Ok, I'm going to go talk to the girls and I'll be back in a bit." I smile at him and walk out the door. "Wait Lily?" He reaches out to me and then thinks better of it. "Can I tell the boys the password?" "Sure. But they need to tell us when they are coming. I don't want them coming and going all the time." I say and make to leave again. "This is going to be fun." James says smiling.
I smile at him and then walk over to the Gryffindor common room. "Fortis robore." I say to the fat lady who then swings open the portrait. My friends are sitting on the couch. "Where were you?" Dorcas asks. "We've been waiting forever!" Mary says. "Why isn't your stuff in the room?" Marls asks, confused. I sit down on the chair across from them. "I have to tell you something. James and I are sharing a common room." I say sadly. I love the room but I sort of wish I could stay with the girls.
"You're sleeping in the same room?!" Mary shouts. "Mary! No! We're sharing a common room and bathroom, but we have our own dorm." I say rushing to make sure she understands. I do not want people thinking that James and I are sleeping in the same room. Yuck. "Oh." Mary says. Is she disappointed? "Well I'm going to tell you the password, but don't tell anyone else!" They all agree to the terms. "Ok, the password is Quidditch pitch." I whisper. "Quidditch pitch?" Dorcas shouts in confusion. "Shh!" Marls hisses at her. "Sorry!" Dorcas says apologetically. "We need to have a girl's night there!" Marls says. "Ok, I'll ask James later. But I have to go now! We have classes tomorrow!" I say and stand up to leave. "Ugh, it's Tuesday!" Alice says dramatically as she drapes herself on the couch. I give everyone a hug and walk out towards the Heads common room.
"Quidditch pitch." The portrait swings open and I see James reading on the couch. "Ok, I'm going to go to bed now. Good night!" I call out to James and walk up my stairs to my room.
I gasp again as I walk in. I can't get over how amazing it is! I change into shorts and a tank top, throw up my hair into a messy bun, and get into bed. I lay in bed thinking for a while. This room is amazing!
I'm so happy to be back at Hogwarts. I'm sad it's our last year though. I need to figure out what I want to do after school ends. I can't wait for classes tomorrow! It'll be nice to see everyone. I can't believe James and I are going to be stuck together for an entire year. He's been less annoying. My mind moves at a mile a minute. All these thoughts going through my head. Finally I drift off to sleep.
