I have this one guy in the class who always sits at the back, staring at the window outside.
What's weird is, walang kumakausap sa kaniya at wala siyang kinakausap. He'll just sit there until the classes are over, and he's the last person to go home.
So, one day I was so bothered that he has no friends to hang out at all. I gave him a drink.
I placed it on his desk without uttering a word while he looked at me in shock. I glanced directly at his emotionless eyes and left.
The next day, I gave him another drink. And then again, and again, until it became my routine. We never talk, all we did was exchange glances and then that's all.
April, which is the last week with signing of clearance. I entered the classroom, only to see him alone standing beside his seat, facing me.
"Uhh? Bakit ikaw lang mag-isa dito?" I asked.
He didn't answer, instead he threw a folded piece of paper towards my direction.
He smiled, "Thank you, Clay" he uttered gently with a heart warming smile.
That was the last time I saw him. I was so puzzled. Where did he go? The origami he gave me was still in my room, pero yung nagbigay wala na.
Where on earth is he?
"C'mon, Clay. We have to hurry!"
"Huh? Why?" I asked buffed while being dragged outside towards the field. Halos lahat ng estudyante doon ay nakakumpol pati na rin ang mga guro.
"It's Ryu Berlin's second death anniversary! We have to pay respect"
"Huh?"
"Ah! Transferee ka pala kaya di mo alam. That's Ryu," she pointed the picture in front, "He was bullied by everyone yet he's the one who saved majority of his classmates during the school fire"
My jaw dropped as I felt the cold sensation run down my spine. "E-excuse me!"
I ran outside the school and rushed home. Nang makarating ako, agad kong hinanap ang papel na binigay niya.
I unfolded it, and I was right. He wrote something.
'I have never been recognized before. Thank you for treating me nicely, Clay. You will always be my only friend"
Napaupo ako at napaiyak nalang.
Hey,
It must've been hard for you.
I'm sorry for being so late.
I'm so sorry, I made you wait.
You can finally rest now.
Be happy.
