I wake up to James knocking on my door. "Lily! You have to get up! You're going to be late!" I sit up suddenly. "Huh?" "Lily! Classes are starting soon!" James says and knocks on my door again. "I'm getting up! Oh shit! It's 8!" I jump out of bed and pick out my uniform.

I run out of my room and into the common room. "Did you shower already?" I ask frantically. "Why do you want to know?" James smirks at me and winks. I sigh and shake my head. "Nevermind!"

I run into the bathroom and undress quickly. I jump in the warm shower and wash my face and body. A few minutes later, I jump out and reach for my clothes.

Shit! I left them in the common room. Oh no. I wrap my towel around me and open the door a little. "James!" I yell. "What?" He asks. "Can you get my clothes for me?" I say, poking my head through the door. "Please?" James laughs. "Ok ok! I'll get it!" James reaches for my clothes and hands it over to me. I make to grab them but he holds them back. "James!" I yell. "Give them here!" "You have to say thank you. It was very difficult to pick up your clothes and bring them over here. You should thank me for my hard work." He smirks at me and I glare at him. "Thank you." I mutter.

He finally hands me my clothes and I get dressed. The skirt is a little big around the waist so I have to pin it up. I blow dry my hair and put some lip gloss on and I'm done.

I walk out of the bathroom and get my bag from my room. "I have potions first. What do you have?" James asks, waiting for me by the door. "I have potions also." I sigh. Ugh. Now I have to spend even more time with James. I know we are "friends" now, but he still is so annoying. James and I walk downstairs to the Great Hall and take our seat with our friends.

"So how was your first night with James?" Marls asks, grinning. I punch her arm. "Ugh, don't say it like that. It sounds wrong!" "Only if you're thinking wrong." Dorcas says innocently and I glare at her.

"Whatever, let's eat! What do you guys have first?" Alice asks sweetly. "I have potions." "Charms." Marls, Alice, and Mary say at the same time. "Ugh! I have potions. I hate potions. At least I have you Lil." "Oh thank Merlin! James also has potions first. Hopefully we get to be partners!" James looks up when I say his name and quickly looks away.

We all eat our toast really quickly and James, Dorcas, Remus, and I all head to the dungeons. We push open the door and walk to the front to take our seats. The four of us all sit together and Professor Slughorn walks over to us.

"Hello Ms. Evans!" He beams at me and walks away. It is no secret that I am one of his favorite students. But James is not used to being ignored. "What just happened? We're here too!" He says annoyed. "James, calm down. It's fine." Remus says but I know he's also not used to being ignored.

The rest of class goes really slowly. Professor Slughorn talks to us N.E.W.T.S for most of the time and tells us many of the potions that we will be brewing over the year.

I'm pretty excited for this year; the potions we're going to be making are much more complex than any of the ones I've ever done before.

Dorcas is obviously not paying attention. She's doodling in her notebook as she does whenever she is extremely bored. Remus is paying attention and taking notes, as always. James is staring off into space, running his hand through his hair, as always.

I write all the names of the potions in my notebook and put little black stars next to the ones I'm most excited for. Like Felix Felicis, Amortentia, and Polyjuice Potion. All of these are extremely difficult and extremely powerful.

Professor Slughorn goes on with his lecture for a while and finally, he dismisses us. "Charms?" I ask Dorcas. "No, Herbology." She says sadly. "Me too." Says Remus. Oh no. Please no. James don't have Charms right now. "I have Charms." He says, looking up from his schedule. Ugh. "Ok, then we should go." I say and James and I walk away together.

I turn to Dorcas and see she's grinning at me. I glare at her and James and I continue walking up the stairs. "So, potions class should be fun this year." I say, breaking the silence. "Yeah, I guess. Potions isn't really my subject. I'm not very good." He says. "I can help you if you want." Why did I say that? What is wrong with me? "Really?" He says, looking surprised. I internally groan. "Yeah, of course. That's what friends are for." I manage a smile. He looks very pleased.

We push open the door to Charms and Severus walk out, alone. He stares at me for a moment and then at James, his mouth open in shock. "You and him?" He says with disgust. James glares at him and gently pushes me inside the classroom before I can say anything. "Hey! No!" I say to him. I really need to give Severus a piece of my mind, but James holds me back.

"Hexing him isn't going to solve anything." He says calmly. "What?! James Potter the boy who hexes everyone in his way is telling me not to hex someone!" I say, raising my voice. "Lily, calm down. And it's hexed. I don't do that anymore. But you hexing Snivellus is just going to get you in loads of trouble." I give him a bewildered look. "Who are you and what have you done with James Potter?" I ask laughing a little. "It's still me." He says grinning.

"Ok, let's go get a seat." We walk together to the front of the room and I take a seat between Marls and James. Professor Flitwick starts his lecture. He talks about our N.E.W.T.S we'll take at the end of the year and some of the spells we're going to be learning throughout the year. For once, I'm not actually listening. I need to do something about Severus. I know that he's going to keep asking me to be friends, like he did all of last year. But I don't want to be friends with him. I can't trust him and he hates people like me, so why am I any different. I'm just a mudblood, why does he want to be friends with me? Ugh, I can't with him. He infuriates me so much! And why is it his business who I hang out with? Like, James and I are friends now, get over yourself Severus. James has actually been really nice to me lately, and Severus has been absolutely terrible.

"Ms. Evans?" I hear Professor Flitwick say from the front of the class. I snap my head up. "Yes?" I ask. "I asked you a question." Professor Flitwick looks confused. I always pay attention. "Are you ok?" He asks me with a look of concern. "Yes, I'm fine. Sorry just a little distracted. Can you repeat the question?" I ask. "I asked, if anyone knew what the incantation for the Gouging charm is." He says. If I were any other student, Professor Flitwick would probably be very mad. But he knows that I always pay attention in class. "Sorry Professor. The incantation is Defodio." "Wonderful! Five points to Gryffindor!" Professor Flitwick beams at me. And goes back to his lecture. I spend the rest of the class trying to pay attention and failing and I am extremely happy when he dismisses us to go to lunch.
