My love story. I’m not going to bore you with the details about how it began and how tragic I was before I met ‘him’ and all. I’ll just start at the beginning…
“Juliet!”
I got up on my tip-toes and peered over the crowd of bobbing heads to find my best friend. She was pushing through the cluster of people towards me. Her dark red hair was in its usual bun as she hated her tight ringlets. She shoved one more person to the side before embracing me warmly.
“What’s with all these people?” She asked instantly.
“I’m not sure, let’s get out.” I said.
We snaked through the crowd once more and escaped. I jumped up to try and see what the crowd were gathered for, but I wasn’t the tallest so that failed.
“Where’s Sophia?” I questioned as we began walking away.
“Her parents are holding her captive. She said she’ll meet us at the party tonight.”
I chuckled a little and nodded.
“Okay then, where to for now?” I asked.
“Well I need a dress for tonight, let’s start there!” She said excitedly.
She linked arms with me and dragged me down the street towards the mall.
“Why are you so pretty Maddi!?” I whined as she tried on her third dress.
“Don’t you start that with me young lady! You are the gorgeous one.” She stated.
I shook my head and poked my tongue out.
“I’m still not sure on which dress.” She sighed.
“Just close your eyes and pick one.” I said, smiling innocently.
“I can’t darling, unlike you; I don’t look good in everything.” She said.
I rolled my eyes.
“Okay then, I’d go for the pink and black, it’s slimming and goes well with your hair.”
“Alright!” She chirped.
We returned the dresses we didn’t want and went to the check out. Next was the shoe store, which didn’t take long. We had a few extra hours on our hands so we decided to get our nails done. Maddi got hers a light pink to match her dress and bracelets, and I got black. Just as we were waiting for them to dry my phone rang. I answered it awkwardly.
“Hello?”
“Hey Jules.” Sophia said.
“Oh hey darl, how are you?” I asked.
“I’m alright, but a little short on clothes and shoes. Do you think you could pick me up a dress and a pair of heels for tonight?” She questioned.
“Yeah sure, any specifications?”
“Nah, I’m not too fussy, just get me something nice please.”
“Okay babe, see you tonight.”
“Bye!”
I hung up and dropped my phone back in my bag.
“Okay, let’s go get Soph some shoes and a dress then go to her place and get ready.”
Maddi picked up her bag and smiled.
“Awesome, cause I found this amazing dress that’d look perfect on her.”
I giggled and paid the beautician.
“What colour? You know she hates yellow and green right?” I asked.
“It’s purple and silver, she’ll love it.” Maddi said laughing.
~At Sophia’s~
“Soph!” Maddi and I exclaimed.
We hugged her tightly before she invited us into her bedroom.
“Thanks so much guys.” She said as I gave her the bag.
She took the dress and shoes out and loved it.
“You have to thank Maddi for that.” I said as I began to wash my face.
Soph was half way through painting her nails and Maddi started straightening her hair.
“Aw Mads can’t you leave your curls in?” Soph whined.
“No way, they’re so frizzy! It’s horrible. Besides, Dylan’s going to be there tonight.” She said, her cheeks turning red at the end.
“Ooh!” Soph and I teased.
“Do you reckon he’ll finally ask you out tonight?” I said dramatically.
“Ugh I wish!” Maddi said, laughing.
Soph began making kissy faces at her.
“Oh save it for Cameron!” Maddi scoffed.
Soph stopped instantly and her whole face went red.
“That’s not even funny Mads, he doesn’t know I exist!” She whined.
“And that’s why he says hi every time he sees you and checks you out every time you walk past.” I said sarcastically.
“He doesn’t! Stop saying that!”
She buried her face in her hands to hide her smile. Maddi went back to her hair.
“You know Jules, it really sucks that you don’t like anyone.” She stated suddenly.
“Seriously, like there’s not one person you’re interested in?” Sophia quizzed.
I bit my lip to keep from smiling or laughing.
“Nope, they’re all stupid.” I replied cheekily.
They both rolled their eyes.
“Well, tonight might change your mind.” Maddi stated.
“I hope.” Soph muttered.
The truth was that I did like someone, a lot but I just didn’t want to tell anyone. Not even my two best friends for some reason. Maybe because he wasn’t the most popular, or maybe because he loved comics, but I couldn’t tell anyone. He was really sweet; and super attractive but he was shy and never talked to anyone apart from his friends.
“Juliet!”
Maddi snapped her fingers in front of my face.
“Hm?”
“I said; what time does the party start?” Soph asked.
“Oh um six.” I replied.
They nodded and checked the time.
“We have an hour and a half.” Maddi said.
