Every morning I wake up and attempt a smile. I guess smiling could be the answer to a lot of my problems, that’s the only reason I do it. Even though I’d never admit that to anybody, smiling is what gets me through some of the roughest days.
Well, it was the first day of summer, which was good. I really did not like school. I had friends, but I wasn’t really close to anyone. I don’t know who to trust or who to be close to. Yano? Just Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn, and Louis.
I pulled on some denim cuffed Capri pants from American Eagle with red Vans and a Hollister shirt. I listened to Oasis and Coldplay as I put on makeup and straightened my hair in the bathroom. Another thing I will never admit to, I love singing.
I finished getting ready, and went downstairs. My foster parents, Kelly and Hal, were reading the newspaper with their two favorite boys- Ed and Liam. They’re some of my favorites, why wouldn’t they be? They’re sweet, smart, and simply adorable to me.
“Lennon, darling, your phone keeps ringing, could you please answer it?” Kelly asked me as nice as she could possibly be. She was like that.
“Oh yeah, sorry about that. It’s probably just Niall.” I said, grabbing my phone. Actually, it wasn’t Niall.
It was Zayn?
I called him back, he never called me unless it was a big deal.
“Lennon, where have you been I’ve been calling you all morning!” he said to me when he answered.
“Sorry, what do you need?” I asked.
“I’m in deep shit, Lennon… My parents kicked me out.” Zayn sighed lightly through the phone.
Zayn wasn’t exactly a good influence. He did do drugs, and he did smoke cigarettes, and he did drink a little. But he was a good guy… He was kinda like Robin Hood to me. He’d do the wrong thing if it made people happy.
“Where are you staying?” I asked nervously.
“I don’t know. Probably with Harry, but I fight with him too much anymore…” he said. Harry and him did fight a lot, and it was ever since Zayn and his girlfriend broke up. I don’t know why.
“What about Niall?” I asked.
He chuckled, ‘Yeah, those Christians aren’t letting me nowhere near their property.”
“Louis? He’s got an apartment for God’s sake, that should be perfect.” I suggested again.
“Louis lives with his girlfriend… that’s just, yano.” He made another excuse.
“Lennon, would that happen to be Zayn?” Hal asked me. I nodded. “Tell him he can stay here til his parents cool off.”
I smiled a little, “I just found you a place. Hal says to stay here til your parents cool off.” I repeated Hal’s words.
“No, that’s too much..” Zayn acted sympathetic.
“Shut up, the guest room is all yours.” I laughed a little. He did too.
“Tell Hal I said thanks, and I’m bringing him a big ass pie later.” Zayn said. It made me laugh
“Will do.”

So Zayn kept his promise and brought Hal his favorite thing in the world- food. He did get to stay in the guest room, and he was unusually quiet. I mean, he was always quiet, but not around Liam and I. I could tell this wasn’t a normal fight with his parents that usually happened, but something really went down today.
I was able to get Zayn alone, after everyone went to bed. That’s another thing, when I went downstairs he wasn’t asleep. He was on his phone, listening to music. By 10 o’clock Zayn is out cold… But he’s wide awake.
“Hey.” He smiled at me a little. I smiled back, and sat by him.
“What’s going on?” I asked him calmly. He just shrugged.
“Nothin.” He acted like he had no idea what I was talking about.
“Don’t’ try with that shit, there’s something wrong… What happened?” I asked.
He took out his headphones and looked at me. The lamp that lit the room was dim and it smelled like lavender. I’m sure Zayn enjoyed that… Just kidding.
“I was defending my mom in a fight, so my dad kicked me out. It’s crazy, because my mom agreed with him. I didn’t think twice, I got out of there…” He explained.
“What about your sisters?” I asked.
He just shook his head lightly, “They’re too young to understand what happened. All I know is that if my dad lays a finger on them, I’ll kill him.” Zayn confessed to me.
Zayn and his dad didn’t exactly have the best relationship, but for Zayn to say he’d kill them was messed up. She didn’t know whether to think Zayn was making a big deal out of it, which rarely happened, or his dad really was horrible.
That’s when I realized the bruise on Zayn’s left cheekbone. I wasn’t able to see it since he wasn’t facing towards me.
“Did he do that?” I asked quietly. He looked back at his phone.
“We both left marks, Lennon. It’s really not a big deal…” he lied.
“It is a big deal. I’d do anything to see my dad again and you’re fighting with yours. That’s not okay, Zayn.” I said a little strict.
He looked at me sternly, “Look, you don’t understand. Just please, let it be.” He snapped.
He saw my face fall when he snapped at me.
“Lennon, I’m sorry… I just… a lot is going on right now, I need to be alone.” Zayn apologized. I just shook my head and left.
I understood, but I did understand. Zayn hated his dad because he was simply a douchebag. But that made me sad. I didn’t like seeing Zayn hurt, and when he was hurt he did the wrong things to be better again. I could smell the smoke and alcohol off of him…
He’d get over it soon. But that didn’t make him have any better of a life.
