How is everyone ? I am very happy to get an invitation to share in front of you, school leaders.
I understand your difficulties because this is the first time we have experienced something like this.
There are several things that are problems, such as:
1. Teachers miss the chance to see the students, face-to-face. And they are not getting used to carry out learning from home because they only deal with gadgets and laptops.
2. Students have difficulty allocating time to do assignments and listen to video conferences because they are in a relaxed position at home.
3. Principals and directors are overwhelmed by parents who ask for discount fee.Does that make us disappointed and give up ? Certainly not.
Therefore, I have several ideas to overcome this:
1. Learning must be based on students and active learning. For example for art lesson, it would be more creative if the teacher records himself dancing with a complete dance costume and assigns the students to dance like him.2. When zooming in, the teachers must be ready with interactive and fun learning media, not just lecturing. They can set a video about the material to be taught and explain the slides And then discuss.
3. Assign the projects made at home. For example, for ESL lesson, ask the primary students to read stories in English to their younger siblings then is rcorded by the parents . Secondary students can be asked to make an experiment to make disinfectant (science lessons) or to interview several relatives who work as entrepreneurs of what are the effects of the COVID-19 period and what are their solutions to solve financial problems (economic lessons)
4. In Muslim countries where Muslims are carrying out Ramadan, student learning activities can be adjusted to their fasting activities. They are assigned to fill their daily timetables that can be checked with the following activities: sunnah prayers after wajib prayers, Dhuha prayers, tarawih prayers, tahajjud prayers, read the Qur'an, give donations, memorize the hadiths, help parents. Islamic studies teachers can arrange live tausiyah on YouTube or IG schools about Ramadan practices. Female students can also send the videos when they help parents cook breaking fast meals. These activities integrate islamic studies, cooking studies, art and science.
5. For parents, i am sure if we provide teaching and learning based on our curriculum tools, they could not ask for discount fee anymore. The principal should provide the curriculum target and curriculum materials and the standard procedure for parents and students to learn during lockdown. When the parents have known that the learning target achieved by both students and teachers, they would not ask for discount fee anymore.
