—Sometimes i wonder to myself: am i safe, roaming the streets of London? can i turn a corner without being attacked? these thoughts always cloud up my brain, resulting in me overthinking. i shrug as i kick the stones of Diagon Alley.
—It was a new school year of course, and my parents could care so much as to how safe i am at school. things are really getting tense right now and i don't know how much more i can take. my thoughts are interrupted bumping into someone. fantastic.
—"Watch your step, shortie" snarled a cold, and nasty voice. i recognised it right away, as the agonising character of Draco Malfoy. oh how badly i wished to not be there, this wasn't going to slide easily.
"i did say something, is little shortie too scared?" he laughed humourlessly. i hated that laugh with every inch of my body. i finally, and reluctantly, look up at his face to see a smirking, biased and rather handsome boy.
—"No malfoy, i just don't want a conversation with you right now. now could you please move? i'm going somewhere" i sighed. this boy was the death of me, honestly.
"and what makes you think i'll listen to you?" he snarled again. — as a matter of fact, what did make me think he'd listen? i was so tired i felt like crying but didn't have enough energy for that, either.
"please, move" i said quietly. he was obviously quite taken aback, having looking at me properly and finally realising he was going to get absolutely nothing from this. he rolled his eyes and stept aside.
"don't think this is the last of me Evergreen! you'll regret this" he spat, spinning on his heels and walking away.
"wasn't planning to" i say under my breath, and grudgingly walk slowly onwards.
—I finally reach ollivanders; the most wonderful wand making shop. i pull out my battered old wand, with a few cuts here and there, and most of all broken in half. i sigh, the memory of it all flooding back to me. not only was it one of the most embarrassing things to have happened to me, malfoy was there to witness it all; the prick. i open the big wooden door, and find a few other wizards and witches admiring different wands and testing them out.
"Ah, Miss Evergreen! 9", hawthorn and unicorn feather core?" he recited proudly. i nod excitedly. my smile quickly drops as i remember that it was shattered. i sadly cup what's left of my trusty wand, and place it on his dusted desk. he squints at it sadly, and shakes his head.
"Miss Evergreen, i believe this is no longer your wand." he said, reaching into the piles of shelves, stocked with many different wands.
"Sorry sir, but what does that mean?" i ask genuinely. it was my wand, i knew that.
"It means that you are going to get a completely new wand" he said, picking up a box. "and i believe this is the one you need"
he then placed a lined box, and i open it to find a really nice looking wand."what is it?" i asked.
"first give it a test run, and i'll let you know" he smiled, nudging me on. i give the wand a swing, and flowers erupt from the top.
"that's the one!" he clapped his hands. "this, this is a very picky wand. this is 9", oak and phoenix feather core" he announced.
"phoenix feather? isn't that one that-"
"indeed, one identical to the one Mr Potter carries with him today!" he said, smiling broadly. i pay the money for the wand, and leave.
—Sooner or later, the school year rolls around quickly, as i'm boarding the Hogwarts express. i know for a fact, that this is no good school year. i sigh as i plop into my seat. looking out the window, i can see the small platform going smaller and smaller as we slowly track along the miles of scottish land, greens and hillsides making our way to the place where we spend a year learning for the future. the future seemed so big, yet so small now, unimaginable almost.
—"Well well well, would you look at this! shortie seems a bit lonely, want some company?" Not again. i didn't have the bother to deal with him. i roll my eyes and don't reply.
"Ignoring me again, Evergreen?"
"I have a name." i sigh, still not looking him in the eyes. the eyes that could trick just about anyone.
"Oh yeah? alright then, Victoria. i don't call people that i don't like by their names, thought that was clear" he scoffs, almost spitting whilst speaking my name.
"don't overreact now malfoy, it gets boring pretty fast. shutting up looks great on you" i said, opening the daily prophet. he shrugs and whispers something in those bafoons ears. they quickly nod and leave, shutting the compartment door behind them.
this wasn't going to be good.
