☀Mason Sivan☀

The rest of the gathering was the same as always.

The headmaster came in and everyone sat down. Students came up and gave announcements like the canteen special and how we should be behaving in class.

It was a lot if piece and quiet and Mason just loved that. He felt a bit lightheaded ever since Liam shot them up the stairs.

Yes Mason liked keeping both his feet firmly planted on the ground.

It was hard for him. With all the things that he could of been scared of it was heights. He wished he wasn't an air controller. He would have to go to a school where most people fly around the place. But at the same time Mason was glad to be a controller because if he wasn't the he would have never met Kayla and he would never take back meeting her.

Mason was shy and he got bullied a lot when he first came to the boarding school. But when someone intencially knocked all of his books out of his hands, Kayla had been the one to come and help to recover his things.

She'd been so nice to him and later on they became friends. Mason liked being friends with Kayla and maybe at the end of the year he was planning to ask her to the southern winds Dance.

Near the end of the weekly gathering the headmaster got up and spoke powerfully into the microphone.

"Tevanon Heights School. A school for children of the winds, a school for children who were born with the blessing of our nation" the headmaster took a deep breath and made the air around him flow against him flying through his grey suit and pushing back through his black hair.

"It is our duty to protect our people" a worried him buzzed over the crowd of 7-18 year olds. "With our gift we have the power to heal the sick to fly through the sky, and to sence whatever walks through our element. And with these gifts we must save our nation"

Someone in the gathering cried "Save from what?!" A much big murmur moved through the crowd with tremendous speed.

"What do you think he means?" Mason whispered towards Kayla and Liam's direction.

"I don't know." Liam whispered a little louder because of the increase of noise around them. "But I don't like where this going"

The headmaster raised his voice a little louder and more sternly over the microphone "students...students I have some I unpleasant news to announce to you all" The murmur in the crowd grew much louder.

"Students!" Everyone was silent.

"Thank you. I'm sure you've all here the historical stories of the great divide" People looked at each other. Everybody knew what he was talking about. " yes we all know that hundreds of years ago the four nations fire, water, earth, and air were divided by the divine evil force know as the Badru. The Badru spilt apart the four elements and put a wall around each one of them. We the Tevanon nation, the great southern winds have not seen any of four brother or sister nations since that day"

Kayla turned to Mason "where is he going with this?"

The head of the school continued "Tevanon has gotten by since that day but...but without the other three parts of the four the empire will not survive that much longer..."

He let that sink for a moment.

A rush of panic entered Mason. What was he talking about? What was happening?

He looked over to Kayla to see if she was alright. she was a little scared but shed found comfort in holding Liam's hand. A twinge of jealousy fell through him but it quickly faded when Mason thought "Na she's just like Liam as a friend and Liam is sitting on her right. Kayla's right handed! Note to self: Next gathering sit on Kayla's right."

Being the logical one Kayla raised her hand in hope to get a few questions answered. "Sir!" She almost yelled because she was so far away from him. "What do you mean? What's happening?"

"You see, the four nations were never mention to be slip apart...They completed each other. They gave balance.

By separating them you take away that balance. See we as the air nation took care of the skies and the air around us. The water nation took care of the water and healing and sustaining life. The people of the earth kingdom provided protection and were very good at growing and providing food. Finally the people born to the fire tribes gave light, warm and they themselves sustained the sun...

And I'm afraid that if we do not find any of the other controllers then our nation itself will soon perish."

A shear spread of panic washed over everybody even some of the teachers looked a bit frightened but they mostly keep it together and tried to clam all the kids down.

To her left Mason spoke up first to his friends "Wait! What dose he mean? Why is this happening? Why hasn't it already happened yet?!"

More panic settled over Kayla making small tears form in her eyes. "Oh God! What's going to happen?!" Her grip on Liam's hand grew tighter.

"Calm down guys." Liam spoke with strength and held it together the best. Infact he held it together so well that he was now trying to hold his friends together too.

The teachers were doing well at calming the frightened students. But Kayla didn't notice much she was way too scared herself.

She was scared out of her wits! She let go of Liam and cried into her hands. "I have too-I have"

"Kayla. Listen to me. It's going to be okay." Liam grabbed and held her too his chest. To avoid getting anybody else's attention he let her go and brushed a few strands of Kayla's strawberry blonde hair out of her face and looked into soft blue eyes. "Remember. It was you who who kept me calm. I thought this went the other way around."

Looking back into his stunning brown eyes Kayla couldn't help but smile a bit. The wave of panic was over. Kayla sat back and relaxed a little. Beside the fact they just got terrible news Kayla felt happy at the thought that Liam just held her and told her it was going to be okay.

"Wait! If this really is going to happen" Mason despite him being shy and quiet he was really smart"why would he be telling us this?why spread fear? No there's a reason behind this."

As if on cue the microphone rung with the voice of the headmaster's "Children. But this is why Tevanon has come up with a solution.

We must find our brothers and sisters! We must head beyond our skies past the Great Wall!"

Liam looked confused. Like an old memory returning to him. Ever since that afternoon when Kayla had found him. He had never been able to remember much. All he said was "I was an orphan. And I lived on my own. But someone, a warm glow. Ahhhh I can't remember anything!"

Kayla always thought that it was great that he found his way to this school. And even better that he was an air controller. Some small part of Kayla was glad that he had forgotten his past. He'd lived in the Narrows, the memories would just be painful.

But that last part Liam remembered about his past."Someone, a warm glow." Worried Kayla. "Did he have a girlfriend? What happened to that "someone".

Kayla returned from thought when the headmaster continued "The nation needs all the adult air controllers it can get to help prevent the terrible disaster from happening. So the people of Tevanon have turned to it's youth to save it. A small team will be prepared to go over the wall by Pegasus and seek out the other controllers that can help."

The mood in the crowd was mixed. Some were scared, some were excited.

Kayla couldn't tell much more after that. She was too confused herself. She was relieved that they had found a solution but she was also frightened at the thought of someone, anyone going over that wall.

The headmaster spoke one last time "I will give the information to your teachers on the matter. You are dismissed"

And with that the most exciting yet terrifying gathering in the whole history of Tevanon had ended
