Paul sat in the basement with his siblings. Peter was upstairs, deciding that their game of truth or dare was too childish for him to partake in which left Pawel, Pat, Paul, Phoebe, Peyton and their cousin Perry.
"Okay truth or dare...Perry" Pawel said and Perry grinned,
"Truth"
"Do you like anyone?"
Looking to the top of the stairs before looking back at Pawel, Perry whispered out the name of his coworker Tomas which made a peal of laughter come from Peyton, Pawel and Pat. Phoebe smiled weakly and Paul's lip twitched, he was getting pretty tired.
"Paul, truth or dare?" Perry asked and Paul shrugged,
"Dare"
"Alright, I triple dog dare you to stay the rest of the night at the mansion on top of the hill".
Paul paled. He knew which mansion Perry was talking about. The one on the biggest hill which overlooked the town, surrounded by forest and older than anyone in town had been alive.
Paul glanced at the clock over the TV, it was seven pm. He rolled his eyes and looked at Perry, "I won't be let off the hook for this will I?"
"Nope" Perry said with a grin and Pawel grabbed his brothers shoulder,
"It could be fun!"
"Yea, being mauled to death, how fun" Paul rolled his eyes and walked off to gather some supplies. His sleeping bag, a bag of marshmallows, a flashlight, a portable charger, his cord, his phone and a pocket knife. Just in case.
His family walked him to the edge of the woods before urging him on, Paul flipped them the bird jokingly before starting up the overgrown path to the house.
Chills ran up Paul's spine and he quickly took out his flashlight, turning it on and shining it around, Paul couldn't see anything but greenery but that didn't mean nothing was there.
Swallowing heavily, he continued up to the house and looked up at it, swallowing heavily and pushing open the heavy, solid oak doors.
The house looked...surprisingly taken care of. Everything was still there, as though the owners of the house had up and left in a hurry.
Walking in slowly, Paul placed a hand on a table before pulling it away, wrinkling his nose...no dust.
Shaking his head, Paul continued into the house to look for a room to sleep in. The bedrooms looked to be well taken care of and almost...decorated? Paul felt a lump in his throat, did someone live here?
No, that was impossible, no one could live here, there would have been a whole story around it, so much more gossip. Shaking his head, Paul headed into a room and jumped on the floor a few times. Satisfied that he wouldn't fall through the damn floorboards, he laid his sleeping bag down and curled inside of it, clutching his knife in one hand and his phone in the other.
Squeezing his eyes shut, Paul figured he may as well get some rest.
