Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
I would often hear stories of a time of peace, when Avatar Aang saved the world with the help of his friends, and how he restored the balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. I would always recall the legend of King Zuko being crowned king of the Fire Nation and helping restore the broken world, and of his great grandson, Zulee, master of Fire and Water. The legend tells of the young prince Zulee learned of a new element, Time.
I've heard rumors regarding the young prince. Rumors stating that Zulee became a fearful general. He was cold, and heartless, but he was greatly admired by his cleverness and strategies. But, one day he vanished.
Some say he is lost in time, others believe he was assassinated. I believe he found a better place than this Hell-hole.
On the outside, it seems as if everyone is at peace. However, underneath the earth where I am from, the truth lives. Ever since the great general and young prince Zulee went missing, the four nations seemed on edge and looked for the next avatar, but to their dismay, no one could.
Ever since Avatar Aang and Avatar Korra's times, many nations have mixed together, creating benders of multiple elements. This new multiple element bending has made it harder for people to figure out who is the new. Tension rose in the government when they discovered that All claiming to be the avatar was a fake. The government of the four nations soon discovered that cycle had been broken after Water, the Avatar reincarnated into the Fire Nation.
This discovery pushed them to their last strings. The Air Nomads, peaceful and playful, were the ones to declare war first, claiming that the other nations tampered and tarnished the cycle. The Water Tribes was to follow, blaming the Nomad's absence the cause of the break. The Earth Kingdom was next, accusing the Fire Nation of breaking the cycle and skipping them so only those of the Fire Nation can be the Avatar. The Fire Nation was last, but little did everyone else know know, the Fire Nation was ready to destroy the world all over again.
I was still young and and naive when I joined the army. I had to family to run to, no home to be safe in, so I believed that the army was my new home. How I wished I didn't.
I was raised to kill, but I couldn't. So I had to be punished instead. They would burn me to the point where I barely had any flesh to call skin, I would be beaten to the brink of death. I would remember the days where I would awaken to the taste of dried blood and the metal, cold and lifeless, clinging, suffocating my body. I would remember the threat of death always lingering in the back of my mind.
I was always scared, thinking of what would happen if they knew my secret, If they found out about who was really part of their troops.
I was scared of who I was, and what I was supposed to do in this world.
I was scared of myself, Hana, an officer of the Fire Nation's Secret Army, and the next Avatar.
