I walked peacefully down the quiet dirt path. A mostly untraveled route, mostly because of the possibility of a Danger Beast appearing. Not far in front of me, I saw a few civilians sitting in their wooden carriage, taking a break from travel I assumed.

Suddenly, the ground began to shake.

"A Danger Beast?!? Could it be?! CRAP!!" I heard a young girl yell. Suddenly, a dinosaur-like rock creature burst out of the ground, followed by multiple screams. I whipped out my sword in a flash, thinking back to training. 'I can do this, I've already encountered one of these, right?' I thought.

I jumped up swiftly onto the swinging tail, using it as a boost to it's nose. I plunged my weapon into its eye, quickly stabbing the other as well.

"Weak spots." I muttered, jumping down as it began to wobble. "They all have em." It fell lifelessly to the ground, leaving the civilians unharmed.

After it fell, four people ran to me in shock and gratitude. "S-sir!" One said, a little girl that couldn't be more than 10, maybe 11 years old. Some of her straight, brown hair fell from behind her ear. "Yes?" I responded calmly. She bowed her head. "T-thank you for saving our lives. We should be in great debt to you." She said, Tears streaming down her face.

I lifted her head up to meet my gaze. "What's your name?" I simply asked. "G-Ginny..." She responded, a slight blush dusting her face. She quickly wiped her tears away.

"Well, Ginny, you're truly welcome. I wish you good luck in the future. You don't owe any such debt." I told her, standing up to my full height again.

This time the older sister spoke. "No, we have been fortunate now to have been saved by you, Hero. If it weren't for you, we'd be gone. You seem to be experienced, are you not?" She asked.

I chuckled lightly, looking into her crystal blue eyes. "Of course, I couldn't have stopped the beast so swiftly if I hadn't already known its weak spot. Thank you..." I stretched out the word, not knowing her name. "Morgan." She said, her blue hair bouncing as she nodded. "...Morgan, for the humbling words." I looked at who I assumed were the parents of the two girls.

The father looked at my sword, now in it's sheath once more. The mother looked at my face in a mixture of gratitude and curiosity. "But what's YOUR name, Hero?" Ginny asked.

"Tom. Nice to make your acquaintance." I bowed slightly.

"Tom, you're a trained swordsman, correct? What brings you here?" The father asked. "Oh, I'm heading to the imperial capital. I plan to make it big, it's every country boy's dream!" I laughed.

All of their expressions, except for Morgan's it seemed... darkened. "It isn't such a lighthearted place." Ginny muttered. "There are monsters worse than that rock dragon in the capital." She said. "Danger Beasts...? In the capital? Really?! I didn't know they were THERE too!" I said mindlessly, confused at the statement.

"No, most of the people there have the hearts of monsters, they're NOT what you think." Her mother added. I chuckled slightly, picking up my things from the ground. "Thanks for the advice, but I'll be fine. It's not like I can turn back now. I, well, we... We will make it in the capital to save our village!" I said, departing again to the imperial capital. "Goodbye!" I shouted over my shoulder, whistling a tune stuck in my head.

"Lord help his soul." The mother whispered, turning away.
