It's a brisk rainy autumns day in my town. My boots splash with the water flooding the cobblestone pathway now deserted of all people. I check my phone and look at the time 12:34 pm . It's late, I feel a cold breeze cut through my jacket like razor blades as I turn the corner. I look up to see the hospital sign glowing bright red, almost mocking the pitch darkness surrounding. I step into the parking lot and enter through the class door. I look around to see no one but a lone doctor walking out for the night. He says a little hello as he passes me. I look around, I have no idea where I'm going, only who I'm here for.
"Hello sir, how may I help you today," a doctor peers around the desk. I notice his name tag Dr.Beinzo. I shake off my racing thoughts as much as I can "sir are you alright?" He asks now with worry in his voice
"Oh yeah sorry, uh I'm looking for my...friend" I proclaim even though I wish he was more. "His name is Evergreen, weird I know his parents are hippies" my ADHD starts to show when I ramble. I try to mask it as much as possible but sometimes I can't control it.
"Ah yes," he chimes as he grabs what I believe to be his chart. "I'll lead you to his room, however, it says he's in a coma" he sounds less cheerful now. He gets up and we walk to the elevator. It's silent in there, it's like he knows.. I hope he doesn't.
We walk down a long empty cordoor for what feels like an eternity. We get to a room numbered 472. "Well here you are. Have a good visit and use the pager if you need anything." He proclaims. "Have a nice visit" that statement feels mocking, but I may be overthinking as always.
I walk down to his bed. I hold his cold hand, he feels dead. If I didn't know better I'd think he was. He doesn't know Im here. He doesn't even know that I feel this way about him I look up to his face, he is as beautiful as ever. A small smile becomes present on my face as I look at him. "You may not know it but I'm always gonna be here for you Ev." I whisper just incase he can still hear. I rest my free hand on the guardrail of his bed and rest my head on my arm. I slowly drift into a sleep.
