You always felt like the wind was one of your best friends. It carried sounds, smells, and stories from all kinds of places. It had no end and no beginning. It could be a sweet gentle breeze in one moment and a furious swirling storm the next. Fickle. You suppose that was the best word for it.

Many things in life were fickle. Sometimes life itself was fickle, swinging back and forth from happiness to anger to calm to sadness. It swung back and forth in the wind.

Your legs swung back and forth, dangling over the slim edge of the cement bordering the rooftop. The wind softly kissed your cheeks and left a slight chill on your bare knees. It was nice to have the wind by your side tonight.

The strobe lights of distant cars flashed by below you, becoming blurry as your vision focused on your shoes resting in front of you. You were trying to distract yourself from your thoughts. Your emotions. Your blank gaze studied your fingers as you scratched at the peeling skin around your nails.

Your back began to itch, and the hairs on the back of your neck bristled as another chill came through. But this time, it wasn't the wind.

Slowly turning your head back around, your eyes began to study the dark rooftop. Until, they landed on a silhouette leaning against the iron fence bordering the edge. You sat there quietly, the wind ruffling your hair and tugging on your loose clothing while you and the stranger watched each other. As your eyes better adjust to the darker corner, you could make out some attributes of the person.

Their stocky build hunched over the fence while a black trench coat fluttered lazily around their legs. You liked that style of coat. The figure turned toward you, his vibrant blue eyes glowing with a curiosity.

After watching you for a moment, he turned back toward the sky, staring at no particular thing.

"It's always hard to see the stars in a flashy city like this. But, ya get high enough you can be all alone with 'em." his low voice crowed, breaking the silence.

You stared at him for a moment. You should be scared, shouldn't you? Maybe get up and run? ... but you weren't scared. You stayed, eyeing him to see if he would say anything else.

"You.. you're one of those guys from the news."

"Yup. You gon' turn me in? Call the cops?"

The wind whistled, almost like a warning.

You swallowed, your throat feeling dry. "No, I don't think I will."

He made a sound, halfway between a grunt and a hum, before focusing his eyes back on you. "Why is that?"

You ran your fingers over your leg, tugging at the loose threads in your ripped jeans. "I.." You paused. Scratching that idea, you started again. "It's not like it'd contribute anything. The moment I reach for my phone, you could already kick me down and vanish." It was weird to think you were having this conversation right now. "Why are you even here anyways? It's not like the heroes come by this area often, and there's nothing much of value."

He gazed at your tired face, his scarred lips pursing into a thin line. "It's quiet. And open. Nice place to cool down, and I need to cool down. What about you?" He already had a hunch, considering your defeated demeanor, how you climbed over the safety fence to sit on the ledge, and regarding this was a private office building, an uncommon place for someone your age to be.

You glanced back down at your limp shoelaces hanging over the edge of your ankles. "I hate society."

He let out a chuckle, and you turned back and looked at him once again.

"Couldn't agree with you more there." he said, letting out a small yawn to accompany the statement. "Used to be all about caring and protecting one another for a better economy. Now it's just hotshots trying to get cash and working under the guise of the public good." His eyes met yours, brimming with.. sympathy? "Except they focus on the big stuff. The ones that get them the publicity, the popularity. If they see something that could be called insignificant to other deeds or not in their line of preference, they turn up their noses and wait for someone else to handle it." He pushed himself off the fence and slowly stepped closer to you. You stayed still, keeping your attention on his words. "...Except no one wants to deal with it."

There was another pause of silence.

"..Is that why you do what you do? You want to show that they're being negligent?"

He gazed down at you, the flashing billboards and cars bellow illuminating the scars across his neck and face. The tiniest hint of a smile seemed to grin back at you. "You're a smart kid. Pick up on things fast."

You didn't know how to feel as he said that. It was nice to be complimented for once, and his words seemed genuine. His demeanor as well, much more laidback than the stereotypical villain image placed in the public's heads. You liked him, you decided. While you were unsure of his methods, you still admired how he wasn't afraid or intimidated to state his opinion and to stand proud with it.

"Can I.." The words came out of your mouth before you began to process the thoughts formulating in your head. He glanced back to you, waiting patiently for you to finish the sentence. "Can we.. talk about this more? I'm still unsure of where I stand, but I think I can agree with your points, and.." You trailed off, calming your fiddling fingers. Meeting his eyes, you turned and said, "I need help."

He stared at you after your declaration, processing what this meant. Although after a moment, he gave you a sly smile.

"You have some potential. Plus, you're already acting like one of us. It might take some convincing, but I'll bet we can get you a place. Toga'll love you already, I just know it." He reached out his hand to you.

That outstretched palm, decorated with scars up to the wrist. That hand that has burned and killed people, some deserving and some not. That feeling society drilled into your heart, telling you no, that villains were horrible people who lied and stole and killed and showed no mercy. But you hated society.

Grasping his hand tightly, you pulled yourself back over the fence and safely on the rooftop as he grabbed your other elbow to steady your balance. You looked up and met his fiery blue eyes that glinted down at you with interest and perhaps a bit of excitement.

"Dabi." he said as you stood up straight. Letting go of your hand, he adjusted himself to your side, his arm wrapped around your shoulder steering you toward the exit doors.

"Alright, kid. Let's go get you some payback."
