Riley

"Hey, Laura." I sang batting my eyelashes as she placed a customers order on the little window ledge that connects to the kitchen for Mikey the chef, well one of them.

She popped her gum, playfully rolling her eyes she asked, "what do you want?"

I sent her my million dollar smile, "You see those 3 guys over there?," I pointed subtly to the 3 grouchy men, who always made me extremely uncomfortable, they sat in the dark corner under the television, she nodded turning back to me.

"Well, they are an odd bunch which I know happen to be your favorite type, so how about we switch customers." I give her my best impression of puppy eyes, looking up through my eyelashes.

She grunted looking back at them, the youngest one threw his napkin that resembled a paper airplane and it landed right next to the table, she shrugged her left shoulder, "fine. You take Gossip Girls table 5." She flicked her strawberry blonde hair over her shoulder, she adjusted her Black crop top that had orange letters saying 'Hooters' and had an owl behind the two o's as eyes.

She sauntered over to the men and they are practically drooling over her. I mean like if I had a a certain male appendage I proabably would too. She is 5'7, leggy, strawberry blonde, tan flat stomach, gorgeous deep blue eyes, a thinner upper lip with the bottom more pouty looking, perky barbie nose and manicured nails.

While I am about 5'3, dark curly almost wavy long hair, my lips are equal in size not too big nor too small, a slim nose although the tip is a bit larger than i'd like, my stomach is flat due to cardio, and I have freckles along my cheeks and on the bridge of my nose. I wouldn't be considered for a modeling job in this lifetime but I don't think I'm ugly by any means.

Remembering I had to host table five, I grabbed my lucky pen from my high ponytail and my assigned notepad, padding over to table five in my black heels I noticed that I got a few appreciative looks from men in the booths.

I noticed there were 4 women at the table, two blondes, a brunette And a woman with no hair.

I plastered a cheery smile on my face as I had to repeat the greeting that we have to say, "Welcome To Hooters, My name is Riley and i'll be your waitress today. Would you like anything to drink?" I glanced around the booth seeing all the girls exchange glances.

A blonde with a Bob haircut spoke first, "I would like Coke, please." She smiled turning back to the menu, her dark eyes twinkled slightly.

"Me too." The Brunette muttered staring at me, her blue eyes searching my brown ones, She looks familiar. Maybe one of my brothers ex's..

I wrote down their orders before speed walking back to the kitchen. This evening is pretty slow, spotting the bartending just cleaning the counter I take that he isn't busy and I can bother him for a couple minutes.

"Hey Hank! how are ya?" sliding behind the bar, I lean my elbow against the counter. Hank is what some would call, Intimidating. Not me, I think of him as a puzzle. I'm never gonna solve it but its fun to just observe the pieces that have got to fit together. He's got cropped light brown hair, square shaped face, a dimple in his chin, I've never seen him smile so I don't know if he has any dimples. He's easily 6'4, so we consider him out bouncer when we need him.

He kept wiping the counter as if he hadn't went over it five times already, "fine."

"A man of few words, I know the type. So, is this your only job?"

He tossed the towel over his shoulder, leaned his hip against the counter, and crossed his arms. "yup" His voice was deep, really deep.

"wanna play a game?" I smiled as sweet as I could.

"no." his lip twitched up a bit, I playfully roll my eyes.

"fine, nice talking to you or whatever it was we just did." turning around I grab the women's food, after making sure everything came out the way it was supposed to, I feel the urge to use the restroom.

When I started to walk away the brunette stopped me by tapping my arm, "Hey, you are Riley Medina right?" Curious, I turned to her and raised my eyebrow, "um.. Yes."

She breathed a sigh of relief before standing up and hugging me, "oh my God. Its me, Karolyn Barista. Marilyn's cousin, I'm here for the wedding. You look so good! I'm so jealous!" She held me at arms length examining my body. Her face finally came into my memories, she looks the same, Shoulder length dark drown hair with cute bangs, oval face, olive complexion, wide mouth, and green almond shaped eyes.

"Thank you. And I didn't know you were coming! Are you a bridesmaid?, I didn't see you at the fittings."

"Oh Lord no. I didn't want to, I live too far to be coming over here for the fittings or rehearsal dinner or bachelorette party." She giggled before letting her hands fall off my arms.

"Oh? yeah its time consuming but for a good reason," grinning I glance to my watch, " Well I have to go do something real quick, I will be back to check on you girls." I smiled stepping away.

"Sure. Sure." She sat down and starts to chit chat with her entourage.

"Hey! Charlie? You closing tonight?" I called over my shoulder to our janitor. Charlie, has been here longer than me. His pale skin seemed to glow yellow with the stock room lights above us.

"Yeah. Goodnight Medina!" He chuckled as I put my apron, notepad, and pen in my cubby, grabbing my car keys I tell him goodnight before stepping into the cool air.

Unlocking my Jeep, I jumped in and started the car, before reversing I put on the radio and started to sing to the song that was on my favorite station.

I live in a town house about 15 minutes from my job, pretty convenient if you ask me.

Westleaf, Riverdale is a fairly small town in Colorado. Everyone knows everyone, everything is public even when you want it to be private. Barely anyone new shows up, so its easier to pinpoint names with faces.

My brother and best friend, They met 6 years ago when my brother was 22, it was at a frat party. bleh.  He said that he saw her sitting I'm the corner sipping on a bottle of water. When their eyes connect he knew he had to have her. They dated for 4 years before becoming engaged, now 6 years after meeting they are getting married and having a baby. She and I became best friends instantly, we are both loud and out spoken. As that saying goes, Two peas in a pod.

So, they are getting married this weekend,  4 days away. I'm the maid of honor, we have to wear an Orange knee length dress, I honestly love it. Orange looked nice on me, surprisingly.

I pulled into my complex and I'm grateful for a garage, all the other town homes are basically a mirror image to mine. Light blue exterior with three white windows, two upstairs, and one next to the entry way. A white banister leads up the concrete steps to the dark blue door with the number 5 on it in silver.

I  locked my car as I approach my front door, "Good night Mr. Dollie" I smiled at the sweet old man that's lived in his apartment for 8 years since his wife died. His eyes settled on me and he grinned showing his dentures, "Good night Riley, dear." He got up shakily and walked into his apartment. This is our routine, he waits for me to get home from work, then he goes to bed when he knows I'm safely home.

As I locked the door behind me I dropped my purse on my bare wood entry way table, along with my keys. I dragged my feet on the white tiled floor as I trudge to my room upstairs, my stairs are an ugly shade of brown wood maybe some green In it.

I took a long steaming hot shower, needing my body to relax from the long day of running around. After my shower, I brush my teeth, put on my lavender cotton nightgown on then fall onto my bed. A couple minutes later I start drifting off to sleep with one last fleeting thought on my mind.

This week will be eventful, can't wait for the wedding.
