So I finally got around to watching this musical after listening to it for months and now I am Not Okay. I almost cried about five times in an hour and a half.
Now I'm reading the book in lieu of fanfictions and also trying to find some way of making a Bandstand crossover for it.
It's a spin on Alice in Wonderland where a girl, Alice, and her best friend, Alfred, are hiding away in a subway during the London Blitz of 1940. Alfred is dying of TB and Alice distracts him by reading their favorite book— Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The problem is, the story gets mixed up with real life so the actors double in roles. ie the Nurse is also the Queen of hearts and a soldier with PTSD is the mad hatter.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this musical for anyone, it's extremely whimsical and crazy and emotional with some deep undertones of what happened during WWII. Also it's written by Steven Sater (as is the book)
