John's P.O.V.
I straighten my tie and try to push down any stray hair with my clamy hands before pushing forward through the rather large double doors. My legs felt almost like jelly, but I tried my best to keep cool. I avoided major eye-contact and forced a meek smile as I weaved through the cluttered hallways. I tightened my grip on my bag, trying to find my way to my first class. My first class in an all new school, in an all new area, with no friends. The word 'nervous' falls short, an extreme understatement in my case.
I found my first class, a maths class, and stepped through the doorway. Instead of desks, there were tables, each seating two. I was early, only one other student was in there. He stood beside a table in the front, closest to the windows. He was tall and lanky, his dark, wavy hair was neatly gelled and combed down to his head. His back was turned towards me and I walked farther into the classroom. He turned his head at the sound of my footsteps and politely nodded his head towards me, smiling before placing his bag on the floor and taking a seat. I smiled back nervously and scanned my eyes around the room, trying to decide where to sit.
He seemed to sense my perturbation and cleared his throat, startling me. "You can sit beside me... if you want to." His voice was very smooth and polite.
"Thank you." I nodded shyly and took my bag off, placing it on the floor as I sat down.
I fidgited in my seat, shaking my leg nervously, seeming to catch his attention. I felt his gaze on the side of my face and I glanced over at him.
"My name's Brian, Brian May. What's yours? He spoke cheerfully and stuck his hand out.
"John Deacon." I smiled shyly and grasped his hand, shaking it. His hands felt soft and warm, but his fingertips were rough.
More students began wondering in and filling into the seats around us. The noise drowned us until a tall, middle-aged fellow cheerfully closed the door and made his way to the front of the room, quieting everyone down. He introduced himself as 'Mr. Grant' and started telling us a little about himself.
"Now that you all know a little about me, I would love to know a little about you as well." Mr. Grant spoke cheerfully.
The class groaned and many sighed. "This will be fun, now come on. Just state your name, maybe your birthday... any hobbies or sports... favourite colour perhaps?" He encoraged us. "Let's start over here with you young man. Stand up so we can get a good look at you." He pointed to Brian.
Brian gulped, nervously rising from his chair and clearing his throat. He towered over me, looking around the room and letting his gaze fall on me. "Well, My name is Brian May..." He started out and looked back up at the teacher. " My birthday is in July, July 19th, and I'd have to say black is one of my favourite colours. I love space and everything to do with it. Stargazing is something I love to do." He shifted his gaze back to the class and continued, "I also love music. I play guitar.. in fact, my dad and I just finished making my own electric. Um... I love animals as well, I have a cat, and um... I'm not really big on sports or anything... so I guess that's about it."
The class breifly clapped and he blushed. I noticed a girl to our right that had her eyes glued to him, eyes clouded with a sort of lust.
The teacher smiled at Brian, "Very nice Brian. Okay, you're next." He looked at me.
I stood up from my seat and sighed, "Okay, my name is John Deacon... I uh- I'm new to this area. I just moved here with my mum and little sister last week. Black is my favourite colour as well actually, and I also love music. I can play guitar, but I mainly play bass. I also enjoy working with electronics and such. My birthday is August 19th... and... well, I guess that's it." I bit my bottom lip as folks clapped and I took my seat.
Brian smiled at me when I sat down and I shyly smiled back. We listened to the rest of the class introduce themselves and Mr. Grant stood back up at the front.
"Very lovely bunch of students we have here, I'm looking forward to teaching you and hope we have a good time. Now, I want all of you to get a good look at the person sitting with you at your table, this person will be your partner in my class. I will move any who I find do not work well together or get into too much trouble. We have about 5 mintues left for today, so you guys can just kind of relax." Mr. Grant took a seat at his desk and started writing stuff down.
I was very excited to get to know Brian. There's just something about him that interests me.
"So, we seem to have a bit in common." Brian stated with a simper.
"Yeah, it seems we do." His smile was infectious.
"Well, you say you're new around here, do you want to maybe hang out or something after school? I could help show you around." Brian had a twinkle in his eye as he spoke.
I chuckled at his politeness, "Yeah, I would appreciate that a lot. Thank you."
"Great! what other classes do you have?" He asked.
I took out my schedule and handed it to him. He held the paper up and frowned, "Well we don't have any other classes together, but we can still eat lunch together. Just meet me in the cafeteria for lunch." He spoke cheerfully.
He was a really nice guy, something I admired greatly. "Okay, I'll see you at lunch then." I smiled at him as the bell for the next class rang.
He nodded his head and stood up, walking out the door. I watched him walk away and I got a strange feeling in my stomach, like I was so overjoyed and I couldn't calm down. As cliche as it sounds... it was like butterflies... I had butterflies just thinking about him, but why? I was truely greatful to have met him. I just felt the urge to want to be really close to him, to be his best friend, but closer. Is that possible?
I got up from my seat and looked at my schedule before walking out. I continued through my classes before lunch and made my way to the cafeteria. I felt almost nervous to eat with Brian, I was scared I might do something stupid, like get food on my face or something like that. I hopped in line with the other students and got my lunch. I looked around for Brian, but I couldn't find him, not until he started waving at me. I couldn't stop the grin on my face as I hurriedly made my way to his table.
"Hey John, have you had a good day so far?" He asked, sounding genuinely interested.
"Yeah, I did actually. Thanks for asking." I smile at him.
"That's good." He responded, pulling a sandwhich from his bag.
He had brought his own lunch and I noticed he didn't have anyone else sitting with him. "Where are your friends?" I pondered.
"Oh," He blushed, "Well, I don't actually have any... not any here that is."
"Oh." I didn't know how else to respond, how could he not have any friends? Someone as nice and caring... and handsome as he? Seems a bit unlikely. "Well, I wasn't exactly 'popular' at my old school myself."
He smirked a little after I said that, but didn't say anything back- instead, just began taking everything else from his bag and opening his juice.
I took a bite from my food before I heard him speak softly, "I'll be your friend."
"Okay." I grinned at him.
We continued to eat our lunches, during which I found he is vegetarian, and we talked a lot. I hung on to every word he spoke, completely absorbed in the sound of his voice. I've never felt this way for another guy, but Brian is just so handsome and has such a great personality. I was actually a bit sad when the bell rang for our next class.
"I'll meet you at the gate at the end of school and I can show you where I live, okay?" Brian spoke cheerfully.
"Okay, that sounds great! I'll see you then." I was excited for this afternoon.
"Bye John"
"Bye Brian"
