Jimin POV
"All hail the new king, Park Jimin, "the head announcer shouted in the royal court. Everybody bowed down to Jimin as he sat in the king's throne.
Just then, a eunuch burst into the room and said breathlessly, "Princess Jennie has gone out of the palace again." Then the eunuch realized the king was in the room and bowed, too scared of the king's wrath but instead he was surprised.
Jimin chuckled, "What is my troublemaker sister doing this time?" Jimin's expresion darkened as he realized why she had escaped this time.
"Let her go this time, she is probably still sorrowful from the former king's death, "Jimin said sadly.
Minister Seo Woo of Inspection asked, "My king, shouldn't we rush the princess's marriage now? She is already 19 years old." Jimin nodded thoughtfully.
"Speaking of marriages, I think we should choose a queen for you now. The people will be assured by the queen and by the new king immensely, my king, especially since they are worried about the king's death, "Minister Of Justice, Bae Chan said.
Park Jimin said, "Shouldn't we postpone that? The people will be overwhelmed by two events right after another."
Minister Bae Hoon of Taxes assured, "No, my king. If anything, they will feel safe knowing that there is a king and queen, now." Jimin was suspicious because the two people who were saying for him to marry were brothers of the Bae family. In fact, four people of the court were from the Bae family.
All of the officials bowed and chanted, "Please hold a selection for the queen, our king. Please hold a selection for the queen, our king." Jimin sighed, knowing he couldn't get out of it and he knew ever since he was little, this day would come.
Jimin said with a tired sigh, "Fine, hold the selection. But I will change a few things, I will announce the changes I've made later."
The Minister Of Justice, Bae Chan started, "But my king, it is an age old tradition for the queen dowager (The King's Grandmother) and the queen mother (The King's Mother) to be in charge of -."
"Minister of Justice, what the king says goes. You are right we should not forget about our traditions but how is Joseon ever going to develop if we keep following those traditions, "Minister Cai Min of Military Affairs said. The king nodded with Minister Cai Min, obviously agreeing with him.
Just then, his bodyguard Jungkook whispered in Jimin's ear, "My king, Jennie didn't escape, she ran to your chambers. She wants to see you very badly. Luckily I shooed all the maids away before they could see her face but I can't guarantee how long they will stay away." Jimin nodded.
"Officials, I pronounce this meeting is adjourned. You may go now and start setting up the selection, "Jimin announced.
"My king, but we haven't even started discussing any of the problems yet, "The Minister Of Personnel, Bae Myung protested.
"I said the meeting is adjourned, will you listen to your king or not? The Minister Of Punishments, Kang Byung Joon is right here, "Jimin said angered. Minister Bae Myung nodded and headed out with the rest of the officials.
Author POV
While heading out, Minister Bae Chan told Minister Bae Myung, Minister Bae Hoon, and Minister Bae Cho of Rites, "Find out what that bodyguard told him. It must have been something important. Ask his maids and other officials what happened."
Minister Bae Cho asked, "Should we bribe them or threaten them, uncle?"Minister Bae Chan thought for a second.
He then replied, "Neither, bribe a friend of the maid to ask them about it. Tell that friend to be subtle though, I think the king is already suspicious of us." The rest of the ministers nodded.
Jimin POV
When Jimin got to his chambers where Jungkook secretly let Jennie in, he was met with her tear stricken face.
Jennie rushed to her brother and sobbed, "Are you really going to make me marry some man I don't like, oppa? And you're going to marry, too? You already know it's going to be her. I care about you and Lady Irene. You and her, are going to be stuck in an unhappy marriage." Jimin hugged his sister and sighed sadly.
Jimin muttered, "You were correct, except for that last part, sister. She will have all the power she wants and be happy because she's power hungry and greedy like the rest of her family. Jennie ah, if you only listened to me. I'm telling you, she's using you to get herself the position of queen."
"Yah, oppa! You've never even talked to her but you make these rude thoughts about her. You don't know what she's like or what she's been through!" Jennie angrily said after pulling herself from her brother's embrace. Jimin just shook his head.
"I think Princess Jennie should go now, my king. The maids are going to come back, "Jungkook came in and said.
Jimin replied, "Okay, Jungkook ah. Take her to her chambers safely. Don't get caught or people will get the wrong idea." Jungkook bowed and nodded his head. Jungkook took Jennie's hand and led her out of the chambers safely back to her chambers.
Author POV
Minister Bae Chan went home with a proud expression on his face. He thought to himself, "This is how you get the king to do stuff! Back him into a corner until there's nowhere left to run!"When Minister Bae Chan got home he called Irene. Irene came from the garden and stared in horror as her father came walking in. If, her father found out that she was working in the garden, he would beat and fire the maid. But it was too late her father already spotted her but luckily she only had a small dirt stain on her dress.
"Irene-ah, the king is finally holding the selection for the queen! Though, you won't be marrying the person I thought you were, he is still the king! Ah, poor Hoseok. He thought he was going to be king, we all thought so but at least I'll finally have all of the military rights, "Minister Bae Chan said happily and too immersed in his dream to notice Irene's dress or expression. Irene was in shock and she felt heartbroken. Irene thought to herself, "From now on, I'll no longer be free. I'll have to love and produce a heir for a king who doesn't even appreciate or love me back." Her father hugged her but she didn't hug back but he was still too distracted to notice. Irene felt tears roll down her face as she realized to her, her life was over. It wasn't going to be her life anymore but the king's life or her father's life. But she quickly wiped her tears away before her father noticed. Sure enough, the next day a poster about the selection was put up in all the towns. People congratulated her whenever they saw her but Irene didn't feel happiness, she felt hollow.
