Song: Unbreakable (feat. Miracle) - Faydee

---------------------------------------------------------

"Too bright..." I mumble to myself as warm light streams in from the window and hits my face. I slowly become aware of the new bed in a different house. "I guess I wasn't dreaming." I state plainly as I move to sit up and look around this new room in my uncle's house.

It's a plain room with little to no decorations. A small shelf stands against the wall opposite the queen sized bed with matching grey comforter and pillows. A rug with a simple mosaic design covers the center of the room to the side of the bed. A small coffee table, currently being used as a make-shift desk is positioned in the center of the rug.

My uncle, Tsunagu Hakamata, or better known as Best Jeanist - the fiber hero and currently #4 in hero ranking, had taken me in after my father had received a letter from America asking him to return to hero duty. Apparently, the world needs to share top heroes, and since the number one hero, All Might returned to Japan, Dad - or Obsidian - the number two hero had to ship out to America.

Figures and good riddance. He didn't even bother to tell me.

Stretching my aching arms, I get dressed in a f/c dri-fit tank top with black leggings and head downstairs. I guess Uncle Mata isn't home right now. Lately, it seems like he is always busy trying to cover the swap of the two top heroes. I don't really mind since it leaves me some time to myself to think and listen to music.

Looking around the house, I mull over what living with my uncle might change in my life.

Less pressure for sure...I can do what I want now.

I grab some toast and head out in the familiar direction towards the Todoroki residence, humming to myself as I go.

When I arrive, I ring the doorbell of the mansion and am let in by Fuyumi. "Hey L/N! I am glad you are here. Dad has already gotten into a fight with Shoto and he got burned again. It's pretty bad this time."

"Well shit. Alright, where is he so I can heal him before the scar becomes permanent?" I ask.

"He's out back in the dojo." Fuyumi replies. With that I move past her and hurry towards the back door.

Stepping into the yard I cross the lawn and enter the dojo, finding Shoto slumped against the back wall wearing black shorts and a white t-shirt. Dark bruises run up and down his limbs. The right sleeve of his shirt had been singed away exposing a large angry burn on his bicep. He looks up as I slide the door open.

"Need some ice for that burn, Shoto?" I ask, smirking over at him.

"Very funny Y/N..." he returns with a glare.

I walk towards Shoto. Crouching in front of him I place my palm on his arm directly above the burn. He flinches at my touch.

"Oh don't be a baby, you've had worse than this." I scoff at him.

I activate my quirk creating a thin sheet of emerald that begins glowing on contact with the injury. Within a few seconds the burn is completely gone and replaced with healthy skin. After double checking that no scar remains, I move away from my freshly healed best friend.

"Do I dare ask what it was this time?" I question, turning my head to look at Shoto.

He leans his head back, eyes closed and sighs, "Same old 'you're never going to make it, you're not good enough, you need to use your flames' crap."

"Still holding out then?", you question.

"Hmm" he responds. "You know, I am surprised you showed up. I figured since your dad is gone you wouldn't bother."

"What? And have all those years of pain be for nothing? Oh and who would heal your sorry ass when you inevitably get burned? Do you want another scar?" I retort.

Shoto falls silent, a dark look settling on his face as he brings his hand up to cover the large burn mark over his icey blue left eye.

Shit, I went too far.

Shoto never wants to talk about the mark that covers a good portion of his face. I gathered from Fuyumi that it happened slightly before we met when Shoto was very young. Apparently it had something to do with why his mother is no longer living with the family, but just like the scar's origin story - that topic is avoided.

"Well let's get on with it then. There are only a few more days before the entrance exam." I sigh.

"Why are you taking the exam anyway? With a quirk like yours and your father's influence, you could easily get into UA on recommendation." Shoto questions.

"Yeah, but if I did that then it would only be thanks to Dad. I want to prove that I am good enough on my own. That reminds me, I found a good song you might like – but I'll show you some other time." I finish, getting distracted and wanting to move away from the topic of Dad.

"Alright." Shoto states plainly.

We stand. I crack my knuckles as I cross the room. I turn towards Shoto and we assume our fighting stances. Shoto makes the first move, sending a massive wall of ice towards my feet in an attempt to freeze me to the floor. I jump up into the air and create a ruby that levitates before my palms. It activates, glowing red, and blasting a stream of flames towards the ice melting it down.

I land, running towards Shoto whilst a thick diamond sheet begins covering my forearms. I move in closer initiating a series of hand to hand combat moves. Shoto and I continue this for a while longer, each taking blows from the other and decreasing in stamina.

Shoto reaches out and grabs my left upper arm with his right hand, freezing it. The diamond shatters from my arm as my skin cells scream with pain. I bring up my right hand and land a punch into his stomach knocking him back.

As he attempts to catch his breath, I drop low to the floor and sweep my leg out underneath him. This catches him off guard and he topples backward. I pounce on him, my legs straddling his waist and my right forearm pressing into his neck to keep him pinned to the floor, while my frozen left arm dangles uselessly.

"Got you!" I pant, looking down into his heterochromic eyes.

A moment passes as his eyes seem to soften. Shoto averts his gaze from mine. I notice his face getting redder and I realize that I was still applying pressure to his neck. I release him immediately. "Whoops sorry! The pressure was making you blush." I apologize.

Looking up at me with a pensive expression he reaches over and takes my frozen hand into his left. He slowly brushes his fingers over my knuckles. Warmth spreads through my fingertips and up my arm. The residual ice melts off leaving the skin sensitive, but otherwise unharmed. His hand lingers on mine, his touch soft and caring.

"Hey Y/N?" He asks, staring intently into my eyes.

"Yeah?"

"You are still on top of me..."
