Chapter 84

Kaia stared out the window as Zayn drove. They were on their way to the doctor's office to find out the results of her tests. It had been about a week since her hospitalization and she felt like she was on pins and needles.

After she had gotten home, she called Marian and told her what was going. Or at least what she knew for now. They both cried and Marian told her that she was going to help her get through this. No matter how bad it was. The twins too promised her they would help more with things. Help around the house. Help take care of Karim if she wasn't feeling good. And Zayn. She turned her head to look at him through her sunglasses. She didn't know what she would do if she didn't have him in her life.

 "I'm so scared."

 "You are my brave girl," Zayn said. "We can handle anything that they throw at us. We are stronger as a team."

She reached for his hand. "I'm glad you're on my team," she said.

"Always and beyond this mortal coil, I'm on your team." He squeezed her hand. "Ready to go find out the results?"

She slowly nodded her head. "Yes," she said in a mere whisper as he pulled into the clinic parking lot.

Zayn opened his wife's car door and pulled her close to him. "Let's go my love."

She hugged him tightly and then they made their way inside. They went to the office and gave the receptionist her name. She said they would be called back shortly. They sat down and Kaia couldn't stop her leg from bouncing.

 "Relax and breathe." 

 She looked at him and couldn't help but smile. "That's the exact same thing your mum told me when we were at the doctor's when I found out I was pregnant with the twins."

"Did she also tell you that these things happen. We can't worry about what might happen. Just prepare ourselves to handle what will come."

"Yes," she said. 

"Kaia Malik," the nurse said standing in the doorway. 

Kaia slowly stood up and gripped Zayn's hand.

 "We got this," He whispered into her ear as they walk towards the back.

Kaia walked on shaking legs as the nurse led the way to an examination room. 

"Dr. Taylor will be in momentarily," she said and left the room. 

Kaia tried to regain control of her breathing. She could feel her heart racing as she sat on the table. "Are you nervous?" She asked her husband.

"Every second, but I'm trying not to let it show.  I just pray it isn't cancerous."

"You put on a braver face than I do," she said giving him a grim smile.

 "Have to being married to you," He said in a forced laugh.

She shook her head and tried to laugh. 

Dr. Taylor knocked on the door before stepping inside. "Kaia. Zayn," He said. "Good to see you both again." He set down the file he had been holding on the counter and sat down on the stool and moved closer. 

Kaia nodded and looked at Zayn. "How have you been feeling?"

"I'm...okay I guess," she said. 

"How has she been feeling?" Dr. Taylor looked at Zayn.

"She is taking more naps this past week. Our toddler wakes before she does" Zayn explained.

 Dr. Taylor looked at Kaia. "Naps are good," he said. "Any headaches?" He reached up and felt the nodes in her neck and then shined his little flashlight in her eyes.
