"Alfred! Come on let's go play in the water!" A boy of the age of 7 with blond hair and a curl called out as he ran out of his house, towards the ocean.
"Haha, I'm coming! Wait for me Matthew!" Another boy named Alfred, almost identical to the first boy but with darker blond hair and a ahoge sticking up, called out, running towards his brother.
Suddenly Alfred tipped over nothing and landed on his face. Alfred began to cry and Matthew ran up to his brother trying to comfort him.
"Mattie! It hurts! It hurts!" Alfred cried.
"I-It's okay Alfred, look it's just a prank by the twilight." Matthew said softly, trying to get his brother to stop crying.
"Really? That's mean." Alfred said and started to pout.
Matthew smiled and looked at the sky, "Come on Alfred we need to go before it gets dark."
"Wait, can we bury this first?" Alfred said as he took out a small container.
"Hmm, what's in it?" Matthew said as he tried to reach for the container but Alfred pulled away.
"No! It's a secret!" He yelled
Matthew rolled his eyes and rolled up his sleeves, "Fine, let's start digging."
Alfred smiled as he rolled up his sleeves too and started to dig up the sand with Matthew. After they buried it, Alfred went to the water to clean off as Matthew sat down to take a brake and watch the sun set. Alfred looked around the beach and something caught his eye. It looked like a human but had red eyes and big horns on its head, it was sneering at the twins.
The thing looked, smiled at Alfred and called out, "Hey, let me swallow you so we can play together!"
Alfred screamed, ran to Matthew, grabbed his hand and started to run towards their house.
"A-Alfred! Slow down, what happened?" Matthew yelled softly.
But Alfred didn't stop until they were in their house. He and Matthew were trying to catch their breath once they stopped. Alfred went to the window that had the view of the lake and he motioned Matthew to come over. Once Matthew came to the window he looked out it and saw the devil that Alfred saw but only a brief second because the devil suddenly disappeared. Soon the sunset into a beautiful twilight then into the night.
"I-Is that what you saw?" Matthew asked, scared.
"Y-Yea." Alfred said.
"Boys! Time to go to bed!" Their father called from upstairs
"C-Coming dad/father!" The twins say at the same time.
They raced up stairs to get ready for bed and hoped to forget the devil they saw.
-next day-
The boys sat in the living room, Alfred doing nothing and Matthew reading a picture book. They wanted to go outside but after what happened the day prior, they were scared. Alfred was trying to think of things to do but couldn't think of anything, he was dying from boredom.
"Hey Mattie, want to have a picnic on the beach?" Alfred asked suddenly, making Matthew look at him like he was insane.
"A-Are you crazy Alfred! What about that devil thing we saw yesterday!" Matthew softly yelled.
"Oh come on Matt! If we see it again then I'll protect you." Alfred said doing a hero pose.
"Whatever, but I am getting kind of getting bored. I guess it would be nice to have a picnic." Matthew said.
"Yes! I'll get da-" Alfred cut himself off, "I'll get mom to make us food." Alfred said as he walked out.
Matthew giggled a little and shook his head.
-Timeskip-
"Come on Matt! The picnic basket is ready to go!" Alfred called out from the door
"Coming." Matthew said as he put on his shoes, grabbed a blanket and ran down the stairs to the door.
They ran out the door, to the beach and put down to their blanket. They started to take the food out and eating it, something appeared near them and walked to them. Matthew turned around and screamed. The devil they saw had reappeared and was right behind them looking down at him. Alfred looked behind to see the devil too, but he rushed to Matthew and stood in front of him protectively.
"Woah there, calm down. I was just hungry and wondered if I can have some of your food." The devil said.
"No! I won't share with you." Matthew said with a pout.
The devil sighed and looked sad, "Even if I swallowed the world, I would still be hungry."
Alfred looked at the devil, feeling bad for him. He went to the basket and found his sandwich their mom packed for them.
Alfred went up to the devil and said, "Here, I'll share with you. It might not be a lot but it's still something."
He handed the devil the sandwich and sat next to Matthew. The devil smiled and ate the sandwich. He motioned Alfred to come closer, which Alfred hesitantly did.
"Thank you, for your generosity. Here, I am going to tell you a secret about this ocean." The devil said as he cupped Alfred's ears and whispered in his ear.
"Really? That's cool!" Alfred said.
The devil smiled and said, "Please use it carefully." And disappeared.
Matthew looked at his brother with curiosity and asked what the secret was.
Alfred smiled and said, "I'll tell you later, the secret of this beautiful ocean."
Matthew pouted but didn't push the subject. They sat in peace watching the sunset.
Then Matthew spoke breaking the silence, "Hey Alfred."
"Yea?"
"Let's divide the twilight, between the two of us." Matthew said as they started to pack up.
"Sure! That would be cool!" Alfred said with enthusiasm.
"I'll be the day!" Matthew said with a smile.
"Then I'll be the night!" Alfred chirped.
Together they said,"And will make a beautiful orange sky"
They walked home hand in hand, smiling. They got ready for bed and slept together, still holding their hands together. Unaware of their parents discussing their future.
"Are you sure you want to do this Arthur? Look at them! They're happy." Their mom whispered as she opened the door quietly and looked at the twins with sadness.
"We have to Francine, besides it was only suppose to be one child not twins. I will take Matthew to the palace, you can drop Alfred at the orphanage. " Arthur said, glaring at Alfred.
Francine sighed defeated and quietly closed the door.
End?
