Mild Gore Warning~~~
The Winchester brothers were hunting a Manananggal and it happened to end up in the town of Kalispell, Montana.
This first killing was a pregnant woman, of course. That's what this creature feeds on. However, the pattern was broken when her husband was also murdered and the woman had already given birth. That was because this wasn't the Manananggal, it was a vengeful spirit. A healthy baby girl was left behind.
Four days later, the Manananggal decided to strike again. This time, it pulled a woman out of her car on the highway. Her body cut in two.It killed two people in the process making it look like a car accident. Luckily, the brothers were able to stop it. The younger Winchester heard a small cry from wrecked car of the deceased women. Inside he found a newborn baby covered in blood. He picked her up and wrapped her in his jacket. When the emergency services arrived, Sam refused to leave her side until he knew she was safe with her father. He rode in the ambulance with her to the hospital. Dean following behind in his '67 Chevy Impala.
The baby was cleaned and placed in the nursery. Sam stayed in the window watching her. He noticed a man sobbing while talking to a doctor. The doctor pointed to Sam. The man walked to him.
"So you're the one who found my wife?" The man said choking down his tears.
Sam nodded.
"I'm really sorry about your wife. Your daughter is healthy despite being born a month early," Sam smiles sadly.
Sam pointed to the newest addition to the nursery. The man couldn't even look at the baby.
"I didn't even want to have a kid. I only did it for her," he said to Sam.
"Your wife would want you to be in there with your daughter," Sam said.
"I-I can't. I'm putting her up for adoption," The man said.
Sam felt responsible for this small baby girl that he pulled out of the wreckage. His heart sank at these words. He wouldn't be able to know the family. Hell, he barely knew this man. He had seen his dead wife's body scattered around the pavement of a back road of this Montana town. For some reason, this felt like enough to know him.
"I'll take her," Sam blurted out.
The man looked at him and nodded without a word. The man signed over custody of his daughter to Sam. Well, Sam's alias of course. Surprisingly, it didn't take long. An hour at most.
Sam walked out in the parking lot to the black '67 Impala.
"So, is the baby okay?" Dean asked.
"Yeah, She's great," Sam said raising the custody papers to show Dean.
"What the hell have you done? This kid is damned already," his older brother joked.
"Well, her name isn't 'kid'. It's Emerson Nash Winchester. And if I can help it, she won't be damned at all," Sam said.
The boys drove back to their motel room for the night. Sam quickly fell asleep. He woke up an hour later to his brother nowhere to be found. He picked up his cellphone and dialed.
"Where are you?" Sam asked groggily.
"Taking care of some business, I'll be back in an hour or two," he answered.
"Business with a supernatural entity or-?" Sam asked.
"Human business," Dean said without a humorous hint in his voice.
The older brother hung up. Like clockwork, Dean came back to the motel an hour later. He threw a packet of papers at his brother.
"What's this?" Sam questioned.
"You inspired me," Dean said.
"Sawyer Jude Winchester?" Sam said looking at the papers.
Dean nodded.
"I felt responsible for the kid. Just like you said about little Emmy," Dean explained.
"Her name is Emerson. Please, don't give her an embarrassing nickname like me," Sam said.
"I'll do as I please Sammy," Dean laughed.
"Jerk," Sam said throwing a pillow at Dean.
"Bitch," Dean said returning the pillow.
Two weeks later, the Winchester brother showed up on the doorstep of their dear friend, Jody. Jody would be the one raising the girls while the brothers were busy hunting. Throughout the years, the brothers would stop by between cases to spend time with their daughters.
Sam would read Emerson all kinds of classic literature. And in her later years, he would lend her mystery novels to read. Then, she would grow up to read crime reports in the local library.
Dean would introduce Sawyer to all kinds of classic rock music. He would teach her all about cars. He had her driving like a boss by age 10. Sawyer would always help Jody bake pies for her dad.
Of course, Dean would make sure his niece was also exposed to classic rock. What kind of uncle would he be if he let her music taste be crap? The girls are now 18 and have known about the family business for years. The brothers try their best to keep the girls out of the business.
