Chapter Eleven

Haggart watches as the last of the evacuating tribe has gone . He then called the warrior chief and soldiers that were left to defend the kingdom.
He have plans and he lay them on the tables.
The warriors and soldiers agreed and they set the plans into action.
The idea is to delay the on coming wave of the monsters, they have learned through one of the tribe trackers that the monsters are already massing up in numbers at the foot of the dragons claw mountains. Far to the east and that the previous attack was just to test the capabilities of this .monsters. the main task of the raid however is to collect dead bodies that were being used as an experiment.
Instead of retreating, trackers and hunters went forward to the mountains to set up traps and and as eyes against the fast growing army of the dark lord.
Stone avalanches, deep trenches with spikes jutting upwards,falling trees and rolling logs were set up . Those left behind were busy digging up holes all over the vast fields,this holes were filled with oil covered with dry grass. The makeshift huts that were abandoned by the villagers were lined up as temporary covers for hundreds of archers,infront were lined horses and foot soldiers and warriors with the wild cats and big bears and tigers numbering to thousands. And the rest were the palace guards and soldiers for around another thousand,archers lined up the walls of the palace,
The kingdom of Pur is ready for the defense.
The strategy is to hit the enemy and retreat drawing the enemy to their hidden traps.

Sukhar was furious when he learned that the raiding party he sent brought a few bodies.he needed more army. So he ventured to the mountains to find the trolls this he was able to conquer and made to work for him using his advanced mind control machines. He found. Lot of the old sciences inventions and used it to his advantage. He made the mages the commander of each of his army. Some were bandits and robbers, some paid mercenaries, others were the dead people they have collected and were experimented by his underlings. And a vast number of .monsters they have brought to life with his machines. But the most powerful amongst this still lies inside his laboratory waiting to be awakened by him.
It is a dracolich, made to spew, burning fire. Made to obey him.

At the Xylson kingdom, Morielle watched the growing mass slowly took form,first thing she recognized is the flying pennant bearing the logo of the Queen of Pur,then ahead of it she saw the first group of riders on horse back. Those at the veranda watching can see the urgency and the desperation .Dhugal mounted his stallion and brought along a few soldiers to meet the on coming riders. The news was such a shock for Dhugal, He can not fathom the thought of seeing the kingdom of fur turning into rubbles,he have trained when he was younger, he used to hunt with Kelson and Haggart at the woods behind the kingdom.
So he instructed his men to go back and bring the news and the riders with them to the palace and he went on to meet the procession.

Haggart and his men patiently waited and watched at the top of the palace towers, they could see some movements from the forest at the mountains. Slight movements that would begin to be distinctive. Portions of the mountain would suddenly fall and soon an avalanche of rocks and boulder would follow. Then they saw big trees falling down one by one crushing whoever's or what ever lies below it. Soon enough the trackers and hunters appeared running fast in retreat towards the safety of the line of soldiers. And then he recieved the reports that the traps they have set up failed to stop the advancing force of the Dark lords armies.
It would soon be dark and it would be a big disadvantage for his men. Earlier reports said that the head of this armies were the dead people that were collected by the ogres and imps on the previous raids. Arrows and spears does not affect it but only if the head is cut off does it stop from attacking. This information was provided to all the warriors and soldiers. They will have to do it to those people they once knew. Those are now dead. But suffering more because they dont feel pain, they have lost their emotions because they are already dead, and they are just doing as they are programmed to do. To attack.

Sukhar's forces have breached the defenses made by the trackers and hunters, it was done with a little casualty on his army. All it did was to slow down his advancing force.
At the foot of the mountain the first skirmishes of the battle began.
A hundred warriors sprang from hidden bushes hacking away on limbs and heads of the dead people some of these warriors died by the weight of the enemies numbers. Others have successfully gained control and stop the advance when rain of arrows fell coming from the mercenaries and robbers from behind these dead army.
It hits both the dead and the warriors  thus forcing the warriors to retreat. The first defenses failed. The army of dead people were already far inside the fields filled with pot holes covered with dried leaves and oil . The archers then let their  burning arrows fly. Hundreds of arrows volley  after volley  flew. Hitting  the dead and some of the mercenaries. And as they fell in the ground the burning arrows hits the grasses and burned the whole fields, killing and burning those that were trapped within . The dead army just burned not feeling any pain they just burn and fall.The army stopped its advance.
Haggart's  men have brought the time they needed. Now they need other tactics for the next action. They planned their escape.

Coleene  and Morielle  stood waiting at the veranda watching the approaching  parade, Dhugal have already ride out to meet the procession with a few armed soldiers.
Alaris was busy helping those outside of the palace to march in an orderly manner inside the palace walls. It was hasty yet with the help of some soldiers they were able to do the task.

Queen Ysa on the head of the procession keep checking on Yna and her baby making sure they are alright.Ahead of them silhouetted from the shadow of the setting sun is the palace of the kingdom of Xylson. Its towers and parapet  all show the blowing insignia of the Xylson  family flag. The war behind them have begun.
