But sometimes, destiny works in the most peculiar of ways as when his eyes befell upon her- they sparked a flame...

"Hello Adolpha" Marcus nodded calmly and she couldn't help but smile. There was something so gentle about him and so as she sat opposite him; she felt only calm. The brown-haired king watched her with his glittering red eyes and she knew that she should fear him- that she should fear all of them. But she just couldn't bring herself to. They could kill her in a second and yet, sat in the library of Caius Volturi, she only smiled. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay" she nodded.
"How are you handling everything? You do not have to be strong with me Adolpha. I am not like Caius or Aro... I know what it feels like to hurt. And I know that sometimes you just cannot help how you feel, even when you try your best to bottle everything up." he informed her and there was something so incredibly sad about the way he said it. She couldn't help but want to hug the miserable man. Of course, did not.
"I miss my brother." she smiled solemnly. "Conri and I... We have been together, living side by side for a hundred years. I have never spent longer than two weeks away from him and now, here we are... A month into our separation and I don't miss him any less with each passing day," she found it so easy to talk to Marcus, maybe it was the non-judgemental blinking of his eyes that she so utterly human or the soft, ghost of a smile that he attempted to draw onto his lips as he looked at her sweetly.
"Have you spoken to Caius about this?... Soulmates they... Have a certain way of making everything seem better. At making even the worst situation impossibly lighter" Marcus smiled, something akin to nostalgia swimming in his red eyes that looked so far away as he said that.
"No... I-- We don't really talk about things like that. I mean, we don't have deep and meaningful conversations" she shrugged.
"Why not?" Marcus questioned softly and she frowned as she thought about it, oddly feeling as though she was at some strange therapy session.
"I don't want to get too close to him Marcus" she sighed and her eyes trailed down to her hands as she finally spoke the truth. She didn't know why it was him she told it to, Marcus who got to hear how she really felt but she was glad of it the second it left her lips. "I don't want to tell him how I feel because... I don't want to rely on him to make me feel better. He has chosen Athenodora over and over again. He's told me he is just playing me, that he doesn't want anything from me. He told me he hates me on more than one occasion. How can I hurt myself by allowing myself to become close to someone like that?"
"...Adolpha. Caius is a liar. He hides his emotions because he wants everyone to think that he is some king in his ice castle that can't be touched. He wants you to think that he has no emotions but he does. Of course, he does. I can see his bonds Adolpha and I can see that he has fallen in love with you. And in the process of doing so... He has fallen out of love with Athenodora. Is it sad that he and his wife of two thousand years have to break up? Of course, it is, and of course, that upsets him because he has a heart. But they always knew that it was going to happen. Eventually. If Athena really loves him, she will let him go. So he can be with you. And I know you want that. I know you want him to fall in love with you, but you're trying to give him what he wants because you're his imprint and therefore have no choice but to give him what makes him happy. But you have to do what makes you happy too, Adolpha. At some point, the two of you have to stop being stubborn about everything. You can never be without each other now that you have met."
"How do you know that he wants anything to do with me, Marcus? It's killing me, every day, to not care, to play along with his childish games. But it's what he has asked me for. It's the only thing he has asked me for. How can I deny him of that?"
"Adolpha. Aro has given you some awful advice. He has told you to play hard to get... But you have to do the opposite now. This isn't all about a first kiss. It isn't about lust. It's about love. And the only way you are going to get that is if you put yourself on the line. You and Caius have hit a wall. You have hit a wall in which you cannot pass until one of you decides to commit. I assure you, you will not be denied. And what if you are? What difference will it make? It has been a month Adolpha and you haven't ever had a single serious conversation with him. You are the only one who can find my brothers heart. You were made for him, and he you. Neither of you will ever be as happy as you would be together. And being with him will heal all the pain of leaving your brother. It will heal everything. Please. All I am asking for is that you go to him and you have a serious conversation and see what comes of it. He might surprise you yet."
