It’s been years since Carter had been home. Eight to be exact, that was how many years it had been since her mom died in the crash and her father went awol. Caters father wasn’t exactly good in the beginning, but when his wife, Carters mom, died and took the only financial support of the house with her, he left. Taking his daughter from her only friend, whose family had accepted her as their own, and moved her to America where his drug business took off. Along the way, there was a few hiccups, one of her dads’ flings left a baby at their doorstep four year ago(Carter took and takes care of her), a few dead bodies in the house, and maybe a run in with some cops. But now, his higher ups, the ones he sells for, wanted him to move-back to Japan and he said yes because they took care of the law run ins.
The higher-ups even took the liberty of signing up his daughters for private school, The Ouran Academy. Carter wasn’t sure why, but she knew it wasn’t good, probably so Carter could get her father closer to the rich families whose troubled kids would be willing to pay top money for top quality drugs.
But of course, their father- Trevor- has no care left after the drugs and alcohol for his children, so while his boss buys a big extravagant house for him, he does the bare minimum. Knowing if he gives them nothing, Carter will turn him in, he pays for a small, one bedroom apartment. He doesn’t pay for food, or water, but he pays for the roof and that keeps his daughter from turning him in.
He suggested the daughters die at one point when his boss and bosses son asked what she knew, but the son seemed very against it and asked to spend a day with Carter. After that, he stated that she was to be kept alive, and her sister as well. The son- James- was very adamant about Carters happiness, despite the girls obvious fear and hatred for the boy after that one day they spent together.
While Trevor traveled to Japan his expensive and firstclass way, Carter and her sister-Ella- flew in a cargo plane with the limited belongings that Carter had acquired for them over the years-mainly plants that grow food for them throughout the year with some thrifted clothes thrown in, plenty of blankets, but no furniture. And from the plain, they were picked up by a small moving van that dropped them and their belongings off at the doorstep of their new apartment.
“You’d think that my rich, druglord of a stalker would have paid someone to bring my stuff up the stairs at least,” Carter complains to herself as she walks upstairs with Ella sleeping in her arms and keys dangling on her finger.
After multiple attempts of trying to unlock the door that matched the number on the keys, Carter groans. “Ella,” She mumbles softly, rubbing the four year olds back until the child groans, “Carebear~” She whines, tightening her grip on the sixteen year old. “I know, baby, but I’m having issues getting the door open, it’s time for you to wake up anyway,”
“Hey, is that your st-” Someone starts as they walk up the stairs and see Carter, but the moment Carter turns to look at them, the person and Carter freeze for the moment of recognition. “Carter?” The short, brown haired girl whispers and Carter launches forward, wrapping the shorter in a hug, “I missed you so much, Haruhi,” Carter whispers back as the two hug and cry it out. Their moms had been best friends, and so had they, until their moms died in a car crash on the way to a school play and Carters dad took her away.
The reunion was sweet… until someone interrupted, “You’re squishing!” Ella yells and the two jump apart, making Haruhi gasp and Carter chuckle. “Haruhi, this is my half sister Ella, but I’ve been raising her since birth and she knows your name as one thing. Soooo, Ella, this is you’re auntie Haruhi,”
Haruhi’s jaw drops as the little girl- who looks nearly identical to how Carter looked at that age- grins and reaches for her. “I’m Ella and I’m four,” She says and Carter sighs in relief. “Boy are you getting a long explanation,” Carter chuckles, finally getting the door open.
“Sounds about right, sleepover tonight?” Haruhi suggests, setting her new child niece on the floor. “Yup and we can even walk to school together in the morning… By the way- you have some explaining to do as well, the mens uniform doesn’t suit you very well,”
