Chapter 87

She turned her head towards him. "Hi..." she said. Her voice was hoarse and scratchy. With her free hand, she reached behind her head and felt a bandage.

"Did they suck out your brains? The children want to know if you are a Zombie mom now?" He smirked.

She couldn't help but laugh a little and then cringed with a slight twinge of pain. "Don't make me laugh," she said and squeezed his hand. 

"Marian told them that they were sucking out your brains. That's why it was taking so long."

Kaia rolled her eyes and smirked. "Yes, I no longer have any brains," she joked. "How ...how did it go?" She asked. "What did they say?"

 "You were an excellent patient and everything went well," He said.

 She sighed in relief. "Are you okay?" She asked still holding his hand tight. 

"Now that I know you are okay, I am," Zayn admitted. 

She lifted her hand and gently touched his cheek. "You look tired my love." 

"I am, your son is definitely a strong-willed little boy," Zayn told her. "Just like you, stubborn with a mind of his own. His own agenda," He shook his head with a small laugh. 

She patted the spot next to her on the bed. "Sit next to me," she said. "What is my son up to?" She asked. 

"He wants to orchestrate a family dinner with Marian and Louis. Put them together and let the fireworks begin."

Her eyes widened slightly and then she couldn't help but smirk. "And when is this family dinner going to happen?"

"Sunday.  Marian is coming over early to help him cook dinner for all of us.  He doesn't want Marian or Louis to know about the other one coming to dinner.  He really wants them together."

"Well, what can it hurt?" 

"The both of you are going to put me in the looney bin," Zayn laughed. "I had a long talk with her and she seems to be leaning towards Louis.  Did you want me to spend the night with you tonight?" 

"But you love us," she smiled and nodded. "Yes. I don't want to be all alone here. I hate hospitals."

"I will need to go home and take a shower. Grab my overnight bag and then I can come back.  Marian can watch over you while I'm gone."

 "Okay," She said and turned to look past him when the curtain was slid back.

"How's my patient feeling?" Dr. Taylor asked.

"Tired. Sore."

He smiled as he looked at her chart. "That's to be expected. Your vitals look good and all of your levels look good as well," he said. He set down the chart and moved closer. "Are you able to sit up?"

"Baby, help me," she said to Zayn.

"Anything for you my love," Zayn said as he helped her up.

Kaia sat on the side of the bed and Dr. Taylor began to examine her. 

He checked her reflexes and then listened to her heart and her breathing. "Any dizziness?"

"No not at all," she said.

He reached up and gently touched the bandage at the back of her head and watched her flinch. "This will be very tender and very sore for quite a while."

"She will have constant help at home. I will ensure that she takes it easy and doesn't overexert herself."

Dr. Taylor smiled. "That's good to hear," he said. "Kaia you can lie back down."
