Lessons in the Rain

I sigh when Inmal and I spot our house through the dense forest. Thick fog dances around us and the rain lessens to a light sprinkle. We pass our fence and the dampened plants to our rickety porch. Inmal pauses and reaches into his pocket to pull out the key to our house. Before he puts it in the lock however, he turns to me.

"Corella, about today..." he sighs. "I'm sorry if I came off as rude or even inconsiderate, but I thought that you should know the truth."

"Save it." I raise my hand. "I know you're overly concerned for my safety, but I can take care of myself, I don't need your constant overprotectiveness. Besides, if you keep worrying like you do, mom and dad will start worrying about you, so it's best to just stop."
Inmal raises his eyebrow over my suggestion.

"Don't you mean it's best for you to stop? You can't just keep sneaking out on your own constantly-" I hmpf and turn away from him. "Ella-"

"Just open the door!" I snap, my face contorting into pure annoyance. Inmal holds both of his hands up defensively.

"No, I think it's time we talk." He shoves the key back into his pocket and crosses his arms. Well this is just fantastic, I'm already angry, but now I'm just plain tired.

"Inmal, come on." I whine, shifting on my feet. "It's getting late and the rain is picking back up." I silently plead for him just to open the damn door, it's not asking too much. My eyes lock into his, and I realize my defeat. "Okay," I acquiesce, a bout of wind suddenly passes through me, sending shivers up my spine, "but can we at least talk inside, it's freezing!"

"I'm sure you'll live." Inmal rolls his opal eyes. I frown and squint in the darkness, eager to be anywhere but here. "There's going to be a full moon tonight." He states. Personally I find nothing even remotely interesting about the moon. Why would he even bring it up?

"So?" That earns me a sharp glare. Inmal sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Corella..." he sighs, radiating with annoyance.
