My city, oh my city
Oh, what have we done?
The buildings are burning
And the windows are gone.
Being heard through violence
Is a terrible way
To honor the lives
We've lost over the days.
My state, oh my state
Oh, what have we become?
A world of brewing hate
Instead of unified as one.
Hate for hate
An eye for an eye
Does being heard
Mean that people die?
My world, oh my world
Oh, what have we sung?
In our cries to be heard
More than one battle begun
I implore you, world
It is my greatest wish
To use your powerful voice
Instead of your fists.
My people, oh my people
Remember who we are.
A nation of the strong and free
Overcoming all hatred by far.
