My name is Oliver Kinsley. Just your ordinary boy living in a small, ordinary town known as "Oak Town." Not many people live here because of this towns "reputation" but I hope one day that changes and people come to love it as much as I do. The thing is, people never really give this town a chance and I know that if they did, they'd love it here. One of the many things I love about this town is all the legends and the myths of this land. Stories about mythical creatures roaming the streets and the wilderness at night. Creatures from banshees to vampires to even werewolves. I personally don't believe these stories, they seem a little far-fetched, but with this town, anything could happen.
So today just so happens to be my first day back in town after living with my mom abroad the past year. We needed a fresh start and some time away for a bit to clear our heads and just relax. Moving back was quick and easy it felt as if we'd never fully left.
*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
"Ughh..."
The noise of my alarm clock wakes me up. I guess that means it's time to get up for school today unfortunately. Normally I wouldn't be dreading school this much but today is different, obviously. It just so happens to be my first day back to high school. I left abroad while I was finishing up the 8th grade so I doubt anyone remembers me anymore. My friends and I kind of all lost touch once I left. I feel like the new kid all over again. What makes things worse is that I'm coming back mid-semester so that in itself is going to be a struggle with the workload and making new friends.
It takes me five minutes and I'm fully up and out of bed to start my morning routine. First, I pick out what I'm going to wear, I decide on a red stripped sweater and long skinny jeans. Clothes in hand I walk across the hallway into my bathroom and start up the shower. With the shower going I undress out of my pajamas and hop into the warm, steamy shower. 10 minutes later I'm all cleaned up and dried off. I put my outfit on, hang up my damp towel up on the hanger, and leave the bathroom. Walking downstairs I hear my mom putting breakfast onto the plates on the table. I walk into the kitchen and sit down at the able grabbing my fork to begin eating the delicious looking pancakes, eggs, and bacon my mom had made.
Within minutes everything on my plate was gone and making its way into my stomach. Mom began to rush me out the door so that I could get to school on time, and she won't be late for her first day at the clinic. I grabbed my bag from the bottom of the steps and was out the door with my mom close behind.
I walked over to my moms Prius and got into the passenger seat, buckling my seatbelt. I look over and see, what I've only known as, my dad's old car. I don't know why we still have that thing; it's been years since he's passed away. I barely remember anything about him at all I was so young. I would ask mom, but she hates talking about him, it just brings her down. All I can gather is one of the reasons we moved away was because of the toll his death took on my mom for years. She seems to be doing better now but I dare not bring up anything that could jeopardize that. I don't think It'll ever fully resonate with me that he's actually gone.
..............................................................................
As I figured, the car ride to school was super boring. I just sat there staring out the window and watching the hundreds of trees fly by. Occasionally I would look up and see a bird or two in the sky. The car ride itself was probably about 15 minutes from home to school and before I knew it, we were pulling into the high school parking lot.
"Man, I never thought I'd finishing high school here." I said looking up at the school.
"Neither did I honey, but I hope you have a good day today and don't worry I'll be here after to pick you up and take you home." My mom said while unlocking the door for me to get out.
