It was a soothing day, 23rd September 2019 ; The weather gave a chilling effect as the monsoon was about to end...
Such type of weather is the best to read a book for a book-lover as myself...In the blissful autumn, I continued reading "The Mystery Of The Baghdad Chest" by Agatha Christie, relaxing on my armchair.
When I was at halfway to complete the story and Hercules Poirot was about to disclose the mystery, I realised that it was around noon, i.e., time for my elder sister, Nisha to return from her tution classes...
I turned my attention to the clock which said exact 12:00 pm.
Just then, I heard the sound of the opening door from the hall, and assumed that she had returned ;
"Dumdum! I'm home!", She said, entering the living room.
She threw her coat and bag upon the sofa near the armchair and ventured towards her own room.
I gave her an approving look and returned my concentration to the page...;
It was a usual day as I thought so at that point, and was somewhat expecting her to come out of her room within a span of 10 minutes...
20 minutes later...
" Nobody could expect such a solution to the mystery" I said, after completing the story.
Then I got up from the chair and found myself astonished at her taking so long to return...I went straight towards her room without noticing my surroundings...
"What's taking you so lo--" I stopped at the door not being able to see her...
I assumed she might be in the washroom and knocked on the washroom door saying "What's taking you so long, Nishu?", just to find it was open with nobody inside. It felt strange...
Standing inside her room, I guessed maybe she went in the kitchen and I could not see her as I was so concentrated on the story.
I then returned to the living room and went to look for her in the other rooms but couldn't find her there either...
I returned to the living room in a perplexed state and felt cold chills running down my spine as I looked at the sofa;
There was no trace of a coat or a bag...
Yes, the coat and the bag which Nishu threw on the sofa were absent.
I could sense my breath getting heavier but ignored it and went towards the window just to witness another shock...
Nishu's bicycle was not parked there, it was
missing...A blow of shock struck my heart and I could sense slight goosebumps on my hands...
I turned towards the armchair trying to figure out my next action on this situation, and that's when the clock captured my sight;
It said :
12:00 pm
