White dress dragging along mossy bricks,

She skipped around her beautiful world,

Along crumbled walls and broken windows,

And fallen foundation pillars on the floor.

She drifted through beams of sunshine,

Pouring in through pane-less windows,

Lighting up the dainty daisies ,

Blooming brightly in the shadows.

Her bare feet prodded along,

Past the sticks and stones,

As she swayed to silent music,

Her dress as white as animal bones

Flashes of her smile sifted through the atmosphere,

As she twirled in all her glory,

To a building as dead as herself,

Yet as peaceful and beautiful as afterlife...

Context: This was inspired by a cooking show I was watching, where they dined in the middle of an old factory. I was really inspired by the way it was shot and the way they showed the contrast between a very old and ruined building and a modern dining setup. The way they highlighted the beauty even of such a worn down place. The tablecloth they used was this sparkling white and I thought it looked stunning against the factory building.

This piece is obviously open to interpretation but this is what I had in mind when I wrote it:

The crumbling building is a metaphor for the difficult situations this girl faces in her life. The sparkling white dress and her happiness a representation of  her attitude towards her life; her resilience and positivity.

Although in a more literal sense the story represents a difficult lifetime and a peaceful afterlife, it can be interpreted in various different ways. I would love to know your interpretations of this!

Thank you for reading,
