Sunshine flooded through the cracks in my home as I slowly blinked my eyes open awake.

"Brielle!" A voice called. I walked through the narrow hallways and into our small yet cozy kitchen. It wasn't much just a rickety old table and a tiny stove. My mother and father sat at the table, both with cups of tea. My mother, Katniss Everdeen was truly beautiful with long dark brown hair and deep brown eyes. My father, Gale Hawthorne, looked the same only in man-form. My parents had grown up together, and had started out as friends, until they were 17. They went on a couple dates, then got married then had me. I'm their only child. My aunt, Prim Everdeen, has 4 kids, No kidding. My mother was always petrified of having kids because of the Hunger Games, an annual event where twenty- four tributes are chosen from the 12 districts of Panem, (a boy and a girl from each district.), to fight to death in an arena. Did I mention this is televised? My mother swore to herself she won't have any more kids.

Today was the Quarter Quell, where President Prince announced what deadly punishment this year's Games will be. The Quarter Quell, is every 25 years and every time it happened, there's an extra twist for the tributes. The75th Hunger Games, the tributes from each district were chosen from the existing pool of victors. That was a nasty surprise for Haymitch, an old drunk that won the 50th Hunger Games. He got chosen and got killed. My mother had told me so. The winner of those Games was Cato, a bloodthirsty District 2 tribute, it was quite a coincidence because out of every District 2 victor, Cato got Reaped and he just won the 74th Hunger Games. Two Games in a row and he won both of them.

"Good morning Brielle." My father said.

"'Morning." I told him.

"You ready?" My mother asked me.

I grinned. Today was the day where my mother and father had finally decided to take me hunting with them.

"Yeah." I said.

My mother put on her leather hunting jacket and my father helped me pull on my boots.

We started walking towards the forest. When we got to the electric fence, I suddenly got nervous.

"Come on, Brielle." Mother said as she slid under the fence. I took several deep breaths and then finally climbed under.

We all ran into the forest, hand in hand. My mother searched and found her bow and quiver

ofarrows in a hollow tree.

"What shall I use, mother?" I asked.

"You, will use a bow too." My mother said. She searched around some more, than found a smaller bow and handed it to me."

"Wow." I said. I grasped it and ran my fingers along the string.

I heard rustling in the leaves behind me. I turned around and saw my dad setting a snare.

I loaded an silver and black arrow onto my string and pulled it back, cautiously. I suddenly spotted a deer to my left side. I aimed, and I shot. I closed my eyes. When I opened them I saw the deer, dead on the ground. With a silver and black arrow in it's eye.
