“I’m flying high defying gravity, and you won’t bring me down.” I hear my daughter singing to herself from outside her room.

“Michael, she’s singing Wicked.” I smile at my husband with a hint of apprehension. She still doesn’t know what our careers were, Michael an amazing theatre actor and myself a Tony award winning lyricist.

“Mom,” I hear her yell for me, and I stroll into her room.

“Yes, sweetie,” I smile at her as she shows me her computer screen. On it is the Wikipedia page for Bombshell, and I shake my head.

“Mom, why didn’t you tell me? You wrote the music for Bombshell??” She looks at me with excitement, and I can’t help but smile.

“I didn’t tell you that because I didn’t write the music. I wrote the lyrics…and the script. Your uncle Tom wrote the music.” She looks at me with a level of admiration I’ve never seen from her before. “And your father was the original Joe DiMaggio until we decided to go in another direction.” As I reveal this information to her, Michael walks in and she gasps.

“Wait, dad was on Broadway before you two started the coaching business?” I raise my eyebrows and Michael answers.

“That I was. I did Bombshell along with many other projects before that.”

“But why didn’t you tell me? I mean, you know that I love musicals, why didn’t you tell me that you have a Tony award?” I roll my eyes as Michael whispers in my ear, “This one’s all yours,” before he kisses the skin right behind it.

“Not so fast, this is about you too,” I say as I pull him back toward me.

“Okay, so here’s the story of how your father and I met…”
