Chapter 1

April, 24 ,3012 12:34pm-The screaming and moaning has finally stopped. The bombing stopped around two days ago but the dead and dying could still be heard. I am not sure if Maddi is ok. She is still crying in her sleep like she did when the bombing started. She is asleep now. I wonder if everything is gone like the whole world. It seems crazy that just days earlier I was worrying about if Maddi liked me or making sure my breath was ok and if my grades would be good enough for my parents to let me go to the concert that Dane invited me and Maddi and Matthew too. That all seems so pointless now.

So far only me, Maddi, Dane, Matthew, Brodee, Lauren, Erik, Brooke have survived the bombing as far as we know. We were all in a mine shaft elevator when the bombing started. Since then we have been able to find our way out of the shaft and into what looks like a control center. Large computer Screens and a table full of buttons lines on e wall another had a first aid kit And a 72 hour kit as well as gas masks. I don't think that we would have survived as long without the gas masks. The radiation has already killed almost half the worlds population.

Not everybody had the opportunity to be underground when the bombing started. Almost no one. For all I know the few who were able to get into their basements and us could very well be the only human beings left in the world. That's scary. That means that we have to repopulate the entire human race. The repopulating wouldn't be that ad but i dont know if Maddi would even want to do it with me. I mean she probably loves Dane. I just hope she will be stable enough to maybe move and try to find more food much less do "it" you know?

She doesn't show that something is wrong but I am pretty sure her ankle is sprained if not broken when the elevator dropped after the bombing started she landed weird and now it's swelling and she can barley walk. Brooke let her borrow her jacket and I used my belt to try to make a wrap to support it and the. Swelling has gone down but we are out of pain meds and we all agree that we are not going to break out the morphine unless it's an emergency. It's still dark and it has been the whole time.

Even though the power went out when the bombing stared our Screens have kept us updated. The news feed went down right after we watched the news reporter get blown to bits during the 3rd round of bombing. The Screens are powered by carbon dioxide so when we breathe out they stay charged. The food they had in here is long gone and our water supply is running low again last time it ran low we just put a small hole in a water pipe but the pipe has stopped flowing and what we were able to collect in a trash can. Maddi is starting to moan in her sleep again.

End of entry

I walked slowly over to Maddi and pulled her into my arms trying carefully not to wake her up. I shook my head and how even when she hasn't showered for days she still manages to smell good. I think she is losing weight. I am almost positive that she wasn't this light when the bombing started.

I held her then too. We all cried as we watched the news feed until the reporter and probably the whole camera crew was blown to bits. Then Dane turned off the large Screen connected to the wall. Every now and then the room and probably the whole mine goes through small tremors.

I hope that we can find a way out because we haven't left the room except to relieve ourselves and that's only just outside the door with the gas masks on and we go in groups of 2 or 3. We have it down to a system. Erik is Incharge of handing out food while Matthew is Incharge of water Maddi is responsible for medical care I am over cleanup Brooke and Dane are in charge of trying to find and fix our electricity. I think we will probably need to go out sometime soon. I don't think stale food will last us much longer.

"mom mom where are you?" Maddi whimpered in her sleep

"shhhh it's ok I am right here" I whisper in her ear.

She snuggled into my chest. I lean my head against hers and I drifted off thinking if before this all happened.
