The three men pulled Haider out from the bathtub. His clothes completely drenched, and his body was numb. Alina's heart thumped in her chest as he was carried to the room and dropped on the bed. Mikael held his wrist, checking for his pulse. Then he lowered his head pressing his ear to his chest. Alina bit her lip, fidgeting with her fingers. Few excruciating moments later, Mikael looked up and placed his fingers near his nostril and looked up at everyone.
'He is breathing but very weak. I think we should call the ambulance.' He said seriously, with grim expressions.
Alina nodded and picked up her phone. Her fingers shook so bad and her tears blurred her eyes that she took longer to dial the ambulance.
'Hello!' She sounded breathless. Mikael snatched the phone from her and tried to calmly explain to them the situation.
Within twenty minutes the ambulance arrived, to everyone's surprise. Two compounders, a nurse and a female doctor came to the house.
'Hello, I am Dr. Ashna Divakar. Where is Mr. Haider?' She sounded concerned. Farhana's husband led the team to the room. Alina was sitting with Haider; she gripped his palm tightly in hers. Mikael and one other man had removed his clothes and wrapped him with duvet, while the two women waited outside.
Dr. Ashna asked everyone to leave whilst she and her team inspect Haider. They all readily obliged.
The next half an hour was very heavy on them. Alina sat on the sofa, biting her fingernails, tapping her feet and repeatedly glancing at the clock. Mikael sat on the armrest, silently consoling her with his palm on her shoulder.
Dr. Ashna came out of the room and shook her head, then looked at the compounder and gestured towards Alina and gang.
Alina got up from the sofa and walked towards the doctor. She looked expectantly at her. Ashna sighed, - 'Now, he is out of danger. But he might catch a cold or have a high temperature. I have given medicines. You get them just in case.'- she took a paper and handed it to Alina, - 'There are few bruise marks on his upper-body, they seem fresh. Also, I have given new anti-depressant pills—' She paused and added, - 'Don't worry, I just spoke to Dr. Keshav Malhotra.'
'Dr. Who?' Alina was confused.
Ashna eyed her, - 'You are his fiancé, right?' She enquired and Alina nodded. She paused and then added, - 'and you don't know his psychiatrist, Dr. Keshav?'
Alina was stunned to know that Haider was seeing a psychiatrist, perhaps for his claustrophobia and insomnia. She bit her lips wondering how he was bruised. Was he involved in an accident or a robbery?
Ashna explained everything and assured her that everything will be okay. Then, she and her team left. Mikael took the paper from Alina and suggested he will get medicines.
'No,' – Alina snatched it back, - 'Mikael,' – she placed a palm on his shoulder, - 'You have done so much for me and Haider. It means a lot. But I can't trouble you more.' She said with guilt in her eyes. Mikael sighed taking back the paper.
