Chapter 4

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Are you for fucking real?" I groaned when I see the poster as we were walking to homeroom.

"Language girl there are young children present." Mason laughs gesturing to Jackson who playfully glares at him; he has been spending quit a lot of time around us. "Also what are you complaining about so early on a Wednesday morning?"

I was in a good mood finding another letter from my Prince but this just ruined it.

Before I can reply Chloé squeals in excitement. "Ohmigod! Girls you know what this means right? Shopping spree!" She screams without even giving us a chance to answer and begone jumping up and down.

Nikki looks at Chloé in amusement. "What's got Chlo so happy? You know, bedsides everything."

I gesture to the poster in front us. The student council had a meeting on Monday about the first dance of the school year and the theme was...

"Masquerade?" Nikki looks at the poster in confusion. "Really? I get that the dance is the day before Halloween but why masquerade. I think they've officially run out of ideas."

Chloé stares at her before shaking her. "Are you crazy? I love it. It means that we don't have to look for any costumes since its formal wear, maybe just a couple of gorgeous looking dresses. Plus it's all fun and mysterious, you can be whoever you want to be without anyone knowing it's you. And think of how great we will look."

Nikki looks a bit less against the idea now. "Okay I'm intrigued."

They both turn to me. I'm still frowning at the poster in front of us.

"What? Okay its way too early in the morning for this." I walk away and go into the direction of my Ms Williams' class.

An arm is slung around my shoulders and I can already recognize the mint bubblegum before he even speaks. "What's got your hair in a knot? Well not really. I mean it doesn't look bad ugh, you get what I mean." Josh rambles.

"Nothing I just thought I could enjoy my first dance without all the formal wear shit. Especially cause of the dance being like a day before Halloween so I figured, you know costume party. It sounded so much fun just seeing everyone in costume. Which would've been less stress somehow?"

By the end of my rant we've already made our way into the class. I smile at Hunter as we walk pass his desk, his busy on his phone but glances up to greet. He must've come to school early. We take our usual seats and I turn to face him.

Josh smirks. "Oh yes I forgot all about your hate for pretty dresses. And you still get to dress up for Halloween. Remember we're all hanging out for Halloween, still haven't confirmed where but I thought I would invite Jackson too."

"Okay firrsly it's not that I hate them. I just prefer my jeans. Plus they make me feel weird. And secondly I think that's a great idea."

"Yeah yeah, I think this would be awesome because now I get to see you in a dress." He ruffles my hair and I swat his hand away.

"Hey! Do you think this awesomeness just happens?" I gesture to my hair. "No it takes a whole lot of struggle, pain and pulling. And anyway you have seen me in a dress."

"Sure when we were like 10. Now anytime the opportunity comes to wear one, you find a way to compromise it either with a jumps suit, which you still look pretty in, or you don't go."
