A baby cried as it's mother held him close, trying her best to calm him down while hauling two heavy bags with one hand into the small aircraft. It wasn't easy fleeing from a husband who held so much power, who could snap his fingers and corrupt even the sweetest professors. Her husband was none other then James Deikane Rose, who everyone just knew as Rose. THE man that had powered Galar and who hosted the pokemon league each year. he was seen as a great man and it disgusted her. He was a psychic like many other men in his family (all psychic type trainers) so it was easy for him to get things his way, especially with the help of her own family, who were all spiritmediums and very good ghost type trainers.
so that's why she fled. he had became too powerfull, too *dark* to be even considered a father. she couldn't imagine the bad influence on the baby she held close to her. her baby... her Phoenix. so when she boarded the plane headed to Alola she thought she said goodbye for good to Galar but oh boy was she wrong...

10 years later, Phoenix had grown up to be quite the sweet and caring child he is now. his powers only started to show here and there but nothing that could not be helped with specific medication. they both now live at the Hau'oli Outskirts, not that fr from professor Kukui's house to be exact so Phoenix was over there a LOT. even enough for Kukui to slip up one time introducing him and *almost* saying it was his son given he's around so much.

that evening Phoenix was walking home from Hau'oli City elementary school and he decided to take that shortcut to the professor's he had seen a few days prior. he walked through the many bushes, avoiding any contact with pokemon like his mother told him, that was until a litten decided to jump onto his back.
Phoenix yelped, almost toppling backwards before regaining his composure "hey get off-" he yelled before he in fact... toppled over, sending them both hurdling down the grass. Phoenix stopped rolling once they ended in the sand, him getting up in a heartbeat thanks to the adrenaline coursing through his veins. he looked around but couldn't see the Litten so he decided to bolt straight to the professor's house. "professor! professor!" he called, getting up the porch before bending down to take a breath. the sudden running and yelling and whatnot having taken his toll on his breath for a moment. him leaning with his hands on his knees, a little bend over while his chest heaved as he took heavy breaths. "g-god... calm..." he told himself, slowly regulating his breath after a few seconds.
when he got back up straight he was met with red and black fur and a light "mreow" and that was enough to make Phoenix almost jump through the roof. "A litten!" the professor said, having just opened the door. "sorry about the delay kiddo, but it seems you made a friend hm?" phoenix was at loss of words, not knowing what to say. "a friend...? but aren't Littens supposed to be shy from people?" he said, remembering what kukui had told him one day. "well yes but if I remember correctly your mother makes you tuna sandwiches on Fridays does she not?" he has him there. he did indeed have a sandwich left from lunch that day so he took of his bag and fished out his lunchbox, taking out the sandwich. "go on, throw it for him. I'm sure he'll enjoy it." kukui encouraged him and Phoenix did exactly that, throwing the sandwich on the porch, the litten jumping off the wooden fencing. at first it did seem shy, looking at kukui and then phoenix but when it's tummy growled he gladly snatched the sandwich, running off with it to eat it somewhere it deemed it was safe enough.
"how about you come inside for a moment hm? looks like you battled before coming over." phoenix scratched his head lightly "not really... I rolled down the hill because that litten frightened me..." only chuckling could be heard after that. patching phoenix up was no biggie, he only had a few scratched that only needed cleaning so once that was done kukui suggested he stayed over for dinner, he even called home for that, letting his mother knew he'd stay for dinner. to be honest Phoenix really liked those kind of evenings, just him, the professor, his pokemon and take away (because we all know this situation calls for that), talking about the latest. not only that, it was the professor, his teacher and phoenix was like a sponge, listening (and helping whenever) to the professor at any given moment. you could say... Phoenix kind of saw him like the dad he never had and it made him so darn happy. until that litten came in ever so silent.
shy at first is gradually stepped closer to phoenix who was huddled up on the couch under a blanket, watching a recording of the masked royal (his hero) while kukui was finishing some papers from his students. it jumped up the couch and snuck closer and closer to phoenix until finally nestling against his leg, making Phoenix looked down. the moment they locked eyes they shared a meaningful look. yes, this litten would stay around, even if that was beyond the nature of any kind of litten. so that's how the evening continued until an alolan marowak disturbed it by knocking on the door with its bone. "ah that must be your mothers marowak. time to go home Phoenix" kukui called, the boy sluggishly sitting up from his sleepingspot on the couch, the litten having already moved to his lap earlier (best seat in the house is reserved for a cat, this counts for Litten too it seems). "already...? but I like it here better." the professor chuckled before getting up "I appreciate it phoenix but- ah.... that litten... it came back. guess you truly did make a friend hm?" Phoenix nodded, giving the still asleep litten a stroke over its head, waking it up. "and it seems to have accepted you as well... so fast... I'll need to look into that" that last bit was mumbled and not to mention interrupted when the marrowak got inpatient and knocked on the door again. "coming-!" kukui sighed, opening the door and handing phoenix his bag to him when he walked to the door, carrying the litten in his arms like it was the normalest thing in the world. goodbyes were exchanged and a good ruffling in Phoenix's hair before he left for home, the marowak lighting the way with its ghostly fire.
