Iyanna Dior
We need to have a conversation about the high levels of homophobia and transphobia in the black community. Iyanna Dior, a black transgender woman, was brutally attacked by a crowd of black men. This is why I must clarify that when we chant Black Lives Matter, you cannot pick and choose who to support in the black community or who you deem worthy. March for everyone or sit down. We shouldn't have to fight racist white men, transphobic/homophobic black men and COVID-19 at the same time. We have to do better and once we come together as a whole family I believe that we will make drastic, positive changes.
Charges
However, on a positive note Minnesota's Attorney General Keith Ellison is increasing charges against Derek Chauvin to 2nd degree in George Floyd's murder and also charging the other three officers that were involved. This is a step towards our justice! There are a lot of different outlooks to these news. Some are very hopeful that our world is slowly coming to a change and are pleasant with the results shown when we work together; others aren't satisfied with this and want his charges pushed to first degree murder. It took riots and protests to get our justice which shows our corrupted system. How can you investigate murder that has been taped?
In my opinion, Derek Chauvin should not get first degree murder. First degree murder is premeditated, which means it would take a long process to find out if Derek Chauvin planned beforehand to kill him. If he says no, Derek Chauvin will be able to walk a free man. This man had 860+ Continuing Education credits which included classes on proper force, ethics and sensitivity training. Yet he ignored every one of them. As a result, I believe that his sentence should definitely be put high. But we are risking all of our hard work if we continue to push his charges to first degree murder.
Please comment your opinions and let me know what you think.
Justice for Shukri Abdi
"Whoever witnesses something evil, let him change it with his hand and if he is unable then with his tongue, and if he is unable then with his heart, but that is the weakest form of faith."
The UK is just as guilty as America in different aspects. The UK spent 13 years and £11m on Madeline McCann and she still hasn't been found yet Shukri Abdi's case was forgotten in just a few hours after her body was found. Zero pounds is spent on a Black Muslim girl drowned by her identified class mates. It's almost been a year and there has not been any justice for her. The UK educational system failed her so the school needs to be held accountable for trying to push it under the carpet.
Shukri Abdi was taken away from this world after she was murdered by her class mates however the case was closed as drowning. She was bullied by her classmates and thrown into the river fully knowing that she cannot swim. There has been no proper investigations and this case needs to be reopened.
Justice for Breonna Taylor
26 year old, Breonna Taylor, was murdered by police while sleeping at home with her boyfriend. She is a black woman but she was also someone's daughter, girlfriend and she was an EMT.These officers that killed her have not yet been held accountable. They still have their jobs and are still not behind bars. These same men that shot her 8 times in her own home is walking a free, employed man. Her 27th birthday would have been this Friday and instead of celebrating it with her boyfriend and family, she is restless because she has no justice for her soul to rest.
Brett Hankison, Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove. Usually we remember the names of the deceased black victims but not the names of the police officers that killed them. We can't let them retreat in the dark so it's up to us to remember their names. We can't depend on the news to broadcast this, we have to do this ourselves. They will not go off into hiding no longer.
There can't be peace until there is justice. When is our chance to rest? For how many generations do we have to fight?
