12. Introducing Kyuu

Let me tell you more about my younger sister, Kyuu Cataclysm. The first reason is because she agreed to take on the narration from here on out (for a few chapters that REALLY concern her). The second is because I haven't really told you much about her yet.

Kyuu, like everyone in my family, has golden brown hair. Her hair is reaaally long and she treats it almost religiously. Seriously, she spends an hour in the washroom giving it special treatments, to hydrate and fortify it or something like that (yes, I read what the bottles have as 'titles'). She has hazel eyes, you know, the kind that hesitate between brown and green. She has a heart-shaped face, wide doe-eyes, a tiny nose and thin lips. She is in her first year of High School, so she still has a lot of baby fat. She's shorter than me by a couple inches, but she often wears high heels.

Sophie once told her, over supper, that if she wore stilettos instead of her huge heels she could kill a man in self defense. Kyuu went all pale and made sure she never wore thin heels.

So, as you can probably guess by now, she has horrible resistance against all things scary. As such, any ghost story, medical show or slightly explicit explanation of how the body works makes her queasy. It’s astounding that she gets along at all with Sophie and me. She has sworn to never read any of Mom's books (which I devour in one sitting; I love Supernatural tales and practically any fantasy novels available) and considers Dad's medical dictionaries (from when he was in medical school) taboo.

Sometimes I wonder about the chances of getting a younger sister who is scared of everything people like in this house.

I will admit it was probably our fault.

Reading the original Grimm tales to her as a child was probably not a good idea. Nor was the horror movie marathons Sophie and I would go on when babysitting her. Yeah...

Well, on a happier note, she adores cosplay. The art of disguising oneself as your favourite characters from a novel, movie, manga or anime is one she does to perfection (my opinion). She somehow manages to forget herself completely when costumed. Sophie once made her disguise herself as an *ss-kicking, witty, sarcastic and confident girl. As that character, we made her watch the Cursed Video online, that supposedly made you die a week later.

And she didn't even jump.

So, either she has incredible self control and only pretends to be scared for fun (I pretend to have more of a short temper than I really have), or she really does absorb herself completely into a character... I really don't know which one it is.

Either way, Kyuu is an extremely funny girl who loves to wear pink, has a collection of plushies in her room alongside the Endless Wardrobe of Doom. She's my younger sister, and I love her even though she can annoy me to no end sometimes. And I worry for her. So much terror for her safety.

Now more than ever, because of what she did. Because of what she will tell you she did in the next chapter. A star in the brightly light sky will wander into the darkness...
