Otis came barreling towards the farm house, following a stranger with a limp child in his arms and followed by another stranger. The one leading was yelling like all hell, probably attracting every creep within a 10 mile radius. The other stranger seemed to be threatening Otis, that's alright I never really liked him. I don't hate him either... I guess I'll see what's going on. I slowly climbed down from the roof as the Greene family left their home, trying to put a face to all the noise. The stranger said his boy was shot and needed a doctor. I guess Otis said Hershel can help, being a vet and all. They all scrambled into the house, my fat hunting buddy getting dragged and pushed by the meaner looking man. I stood silent, leaning against the porch railing. I knew the Greenes would handle this and they knew how to find me if they needed help. Slowly making my way to the stables, I wondered if those men had a group. Were they brothers that lost their wives, best friends, enemies? Maybe they were a gay couple, wouldn't that be nice. I'm kind of sick of the boys in this house looking at me like a snack, like god they're married. Hershel was different though, he was always like a second dad to me and welcomed me with open arms when this all started. It helped that I worked as his farm hand all through high school, but he hasn't welcomed anyone else outside of his family and their partners. Not long after I began brushing my nervous baby's mane Maggie came in all rushed. She told me that she was going to get "Rick's wife" and rode off on one of our horses. I'm assuming Rick is the man that was holding the boy. His wife... that means they do have a group... or at least a few more people. I doubt anyone would leave their wife out there alone, especially if they have a little boy together. I was just finishing up my duties as maggie brought her horse back, she said we should both go back to the house so she can fill me in. Apparently Otis shot the boy named Carl and his dad had to give him a lot of blood. They had a whole group that should be making their way back to the farm now and they would stay on the lawn until Carl was healed. Socialization is not one of my strong suits so Maggie understood when I walked off into the woods after hearing that, my crossbow slung around my shoulder and knives lining my thigh. Hunting was my escape from what the world had become, and when I was alone I was able to kill the creeps. Hershel understood I didn't like them but I sure was glad he didn't know I killed them, I would lose a home and my only family. I try to think about all the good I have left as I walk further into the forest, trying to leave my past behind me.

......

I was out there for two days straight, a little shorter than I would have liked but it was a bountiful trip and I didn't feel like dragging too much home. A whole group of people greeted me as I walked towards the farm house. New people... Not what I was hoping for. I understood that the boy needed to heal, and these people could live on our lawn as long as they want for all I care, but they don't have to talk to me. A man named Dale was the first to introduce himself, he walked right up into my personal bubble and offered his hand. I simply looked at it calmly and tried to walk past him. Unfortunately this man seemed adamant I met his whole group. He physically turned me to face the group, causing me to scowl at him. A little unnerved, he continued listing off names as he pointed to the people of his group. He explained that a man named Glenn was off on a supply run with Maggie and Daryl was in the woods looking for a lost little girl. That caught my attention, I looked at him with confusion and a hit of worry as he explained how one of the kids in their group ran away from "walkers" and got lost in the woods. A more organized search would start tomorrow, I would definitely be helping with that. As much as I disliked new interactions, I had a bit of a soft spot for kids. Okay a lot of a soft spot for kids. "I can tell you're tired, and Hershel told us you've been out hunting since sunset two days ago! You should go inside and meet Carl, he's a sweet boy." I had almost forgotten the kid that Otis shot, where is Otis? I thought he went out to get medicine with the angry looking man... "Should I take those um... animals off you? Daryl hunted for us enough that we know how to skin them." I shrugged the string of rabbits and squirrels off my shoulder and handed them to him before silently walking towards the house. "Well isn't she just a sugar plum." The blond lady "whispered" to herself as I left. Wonder if she thinks I didn't hear that. I don't think we will be getting along too well."Oh Amanda! I'm so glad you're back, you've missed so much. There are all these new people outside and that young boy woke up and... and... Otis didn't... make it back from the run..." Beth began her rant all excited and quick but slowed down a bit to deliver the bad news. I could tell by her reaction that my sadness leaked past my calm shell. She pulled me into a tight hug, tearing up a little bit. "It'll be okay hun." I whispered into her ear. She let go and took a step back, nodding. "See I know that's the truth because you actually spoke to me. I know you trust me and all but you're still so quiet so it means a lot when you do speak to me!" She gave me her signature teeth rotting smile as she finished speaking. Beth was always like a little angel, I know she has her bad days but she still smiles at me even after everything. She lost her mom, married her boyfriend, and the world turned upside down all in the same few months. We all lost things but she manages to keep as all going no matter what. "Boy do you look tired! Let's get you some food before you pass out right here" I let out a little chuckle as the young blond quickly switched gears and dragged me to the kitchen for dinner. She shoved a plate of food in my face and I was waved at by the little boy who still lay in bed. After throwing him a small wave back and finishing my meal, I crawled upstairs and into bed, falling asleep immediately.
