autumn leaves scattered the ground as a crisp breeze blew through beacon hills. as you drove across town, you would encounter skulls, witches, ghosts, werewolves, cobwebs, and more. no, it's not related to scott or the pack, but instead, halloween.lydia martin thrived in the fall, specifically in terms of halloween. we all know that she is known for her parties, but her halloween party is on another level. as you approach the martin household, you should expect a good scare. the strawberry blonde spent the last weekend of september preparing the household, with extra help from her mother. like most anything else, she had a specific way of doing things. cobwebs draped the stairway, multiple candy bowls were scattered amongst the house, fake spiders lay across the floor in certain rooms, and much more.
the annual party was always expected, and the rsvp list was extensive this year. lydia always wanted to impress, but she also enjoyed the fun of halloween. months in advance, she had decide what she and her three closest friends would be dressing up as. she kept secret, telling them to arrive as early as they could the day of the party.
october rolls around and it's finally halloween, also the day of the infamous party. lydia was up and about early that morning, perfecting things and reaching out to people that were bringing food and drinks. she wasn't sure when, but at some point felix and scott would be coming by to get ready. as time went by, there was no show of the two boys, causing lydia to panic slightly. she wanted their costumes to look perfect and knew that they would take some time, especially with how rambunctious those two were.
around three in the afternoon, there was a knock on her front door. she rushed up, opening the door, and exclaiming, "finally! took you guys long enough!" the girl turned, her hair whipping behind her shoulders, and quickly went upstairs towards her bedroom. once she was inside her room, along with felix and scott, she pulled out a couple shopping bags, obviously packed to the brim. she set the bags on her bed, noticing the boys' wide eyes as she closed the bedroom door. "okay, let me tell you what we are going as!" lydia said, waiting to catch their attention. the excitement was obvious on her face as she took a breath, finishing her statement as she exhaled, "the scooby doo gang!!!" the girls eyes were wide and she flashed jazz hands in their direction.
felix and scott exchanged a glance of desperation and disappointment, not sure what to expect with their costumes. noticing these expressions, lydia rolled her eyes and approached the bags. she began to pull out several clothings pieces, obviously distinguished by character. "i'll be daphne," she said, pausing with the purple dress in hand, "duh." she continued, laying the dress along the bed. headbands, bandanas, dog ears, and more were entangled amongst the bags, so she attempted to separate them before handing the boys their pieces. she finally separated the fred outfit and turned to felix.
"felix, you'll be going as fred! pretty self-explanatory," she shrugged, setting the costume in his arms. felix held the costume out at arms length, almost as if he didn't know where to start. lydia continued digging through the bags, pulling out the velma costume, along with a wig. "now scott, yo cut your hair so i got you a wig, but you'll be velma." lydia turned to see the look on scott's face, a jaw dropped expression of confusion. "velma?!" he said, accompanied by a chuckle from felix. "there's no way i'm going as velma!" scott complained, not even bothering to take the costume from lydia's hands.
lydia narrowed her eyes at scott, as she had expected this reaction from him and planned ahead. "fine, you'll be scooby!" thus being her final option for him. she found the costume and extended it towards scott, raising her eyebrows in his direction. scott's face dropped slightly in annoyance as he grumbled, "fine."
everyone then went into their separate areas to get changed. lydia slipped on the iconic purple dress, tied a green scarf across her neckline, stepped into a pair of purple heels, and finished off the look with a purple headband within her curls. as she waited for the boys to finish up, she gathered the other costumes. there were costumes for a velma and shaggy, as lydia was always prepared for a downfall situation. as she was doing so, felix opened the door from her bathroom where he had been changing. he let his arms fall to his side, glancing down at the outfit, then back up at lydia. his eyes begged for something less embarrassing, as it was a very accurate costume complete with blue pants, a white shirt, tan shoes, and the orange ascot.
a smile spread across lydia's face, nodding at felix as she approached. she adjusted the ascot a bit as she spoke, "you look great!" she said reassuringly. that was when the door to her room opened and scott walked in shaking his head. "lyds, are you kidding?" he said. scott looked from lydia, to felix, to his costume, and to lydia once more. "it's not finished yet!" lydia exclaimed, as she grabbed hair prosthetics and a dog collar. "we have to put some fake hair around your face and then the iconic scooby collar." she explained.
scott's eyes got wide at the sight of the collar and he shook his head quickly, "no. absolutely not." he started to back up, away from lydia as she unlatched the collar. "isn't the all brown and fake fur enough?" scott urged. lydia flashed him a look of annoyance, and scott already knew the answer to his question. lydia opened the collar and reached forward towards scott who dodged out of the way. "scott, stay still!" she said, following him as he moved around her room. "a little help here felix! hold him down!" felix moved up beside scott, grabbing his arms to try and steady him a bit.
"i'm not a dog, lydia! i'm a werewolf, this is insulting." scott continued, not making the scene any easier. felix was doing his best to hold him still without using much force as lydia reached above his head. "come on, scott, it's just for the party!" she finally got close enough, but as she was about to slip the collar on, scott lifted his hand and gently bit her arm.
lydia pulled her arm back in surprise, her eyes wide as she looked at scott. scott had gone still, allowing felix to drop his grip. "scott just bite me! not even werewolf scott, just normal scott!" lydia said aloud. "what the hell, scott." she said softly, all three of them confused about the current situation. after a moment of silence, scott finally spoke up, rather softly, "i'll wear the collar." lydia then reached forward, putting the collar around his neck, with no fight form the werewolf.
the three were finally ready, costumes complete, and it had taken just as long as the girl had expected. lydia was able to get isaac and allison involved in the group costume, allowing isaac to be shaggy and allison to be velma. once the party began, lydia forced all of them to join in on fun halloween activities, and before the night was over, she even made them go trick-or-treating.
once the party came to an end, felix and scott stayed behind to help her clean up. their costumes had stayed intact for the most part, minus the collar and some fur from scott's end. all three ended up crashing upstairs, falling asleep in what was left of their costumes. overall, it would be a halloween they would never forget.
