Prelude; Riley's 8th grade graduation-
Today I found myself doing something that two years ago, I never would
have even considered. I was shocked with myself for agreeing to it. What had I
been thinking? I can't believe I consented to this, I know I will regret it forever.
I was giving the 8th grade graduation speech. It had been two years ago
today that I kissed Peter, my boyfriend for the same two years today, in front of the
entire school. Since then we'd been through a fair more amount of kisses. Most
middle-school couples would have broken up by now, but Peter I were still totally
happy together. I'm sure we had some sort of record in my school at least.
Not being in the same school had been hard at first, but we got used
to, we saw each other almost every day anyway. I'd walk to Peter's house
one, and he'd walk to mine the next. We'd walk to Smoothie King or where
ever else happened to be in walking distance. And Peter was so sweet
(girls, that's why you date the geeks; they are considerate). He would never
show up to a date empty handed. He'd bring me flowers or chocolates,
sometimes he'd even bring me jewelry. It was honestly, to quote Katy Perry
"A teenage dream."
It was all so perfect; there wasn't much else I could ask for. I had a great
relationship, with a guy I definitely loved, I had an amazing, happy family,
and I had great friends (at least a few). Even the ones that had ended up at
the other middle school were still close with me. Especially my friend
Ashley; something about being separated in different schools, had
somehow brought us even closer. We were sleeping at each others' houses
every other weekend. We knew each other inside out (no not like that you
pervert.), we were just similar people. In many ways, my life was
wonderful. The only problem was school.
School had gotten harder since most of my close friends had moved to
the other school. I spent most lunches eating alone, and many a break, were spent
alone, reading. I was sort of the odd one out; I didn't really fit into any of my
schools, stereotypical groups (the closest group being geeks ). I floated, from
group to group (excluding jocks and preps. Yuck.) I wasn't very close to anyone.
