Meeting him was fate, becoming friends was a choice; and falling in love was inevitable.
Bokuto loved him because he was so unapologetically himself. From the moment they met, his laugh was the absolute definition of confidence; and he was kind, always pushing people to never apologize for the things they loved. He stood strong, never showing a weak spot and maybe that's what Bokuto fell for, or maybe it was his smile, or his eyes that popped out with a sparkle every time they met his golden ones.
"What are you staring at?" He asked from the couch, bringing the blanket closer to his chin as the anime opening played in the background. Bokuto smiled at him, grabbing the bowl of popcorn that was on the kitchen table for far too long. "Nothing." He responded, taking a seat next to his boyfriend.
The two had their eyes glued onto the television, but unlike Bokuto's boyfriend, his mind was only occupied by the fact of how lucky he was.
Once the two become friends, Bokuto was never more sure of any decision he's ever made. He never regretted, not once, becoming his friend and the times they shared together were probably one of Bokuto's greatest memories.
And Akaashi would know, because every time Bokuto saw his wide smile, or big eyes, or when their hands touched even for a split second; Akaashi had to know right away, and the former setter of course knew that this boy would be Bokuto's one true love.
It was inevitable. They spent every waking moment together, whether it was a simple walk to their favourite coffee shop, or him watching Bokuto's volleyball game, or a night filled with binge watching anime; they were constantly together.
"Bokuto, Are you even paying attention?"
Bokuto snapped out of his daze, hearing the way his name was pronounced filled his stomach with butterflies and he couldn't help but slightly laugh. He turned to the boy who sat cuddled up beside him.
"I'm sorry." He muttered, "it's just-"
"Yes? Well spit it out already." The boy told him, pausing the anime to hear his boyfriends words.
Bokuto smiled yet again, thinking of another reason why he loved him. He was so straight forward, never having a deeper meaning behind his words. What he said, is what he meant, and ever since they met, Bokuto couldn't help but fall in love with that attitude.
"You know I love you right?" He finally said out loud, earning a light laugh from the boy beside him.
"Of course, I love you too, obviously." But just when Bokuto inched closer towards him, a sigh escaped the boy's lips.
"But—"
"What is it? Is something wrong?" Bokuto grew worried, afraid the next few words were about to break his heart.
"Do you remember Senpapi-gabe? I'm pretty sure that kid still has a crush on you."
The tension slipped away, Bokuto feeling relived and letting out a laugh.
"That guy? Forget him. I'll always choose you."
With that, they spent the rest of the night cuddled up on the couch, stuffing their faces with any snacks they could find and talking about all the reasons they loved each other because meeting might have been fate, and becoming friends was a choice, but falling in love was inevitable.
