Chapter 1.2: The Nightingale [UNEDITED]

[Then he gave me a sweet kiss as if I was his one and only lover.- Jess.C.Scott ,Bedmates]

Gideon pushes her away abruptly, causing her to tumble backwards. I can't hear their conversation, but Gideon is obviously pissed at her for doing that.

That's when he looks around, messing his hair, and sees me. I can't imagine what I look like right now, but I must be shocked.

The woman pulls him back to her, when he eagerly attempts to march to me.

"Gideon, I don't believe you." She whines when he rudely dismisses her.

"We are not in that kind of relationship, Cara, please don't make a scene here." He stops when he's in front of me.

"Then you should clarify it, make me understand, I practically sleep with you all the time I get, and I can't even kiss you now?"

Gideon shucks her off and pulls me to him as I gasp in surprise. "In that case, we're over. Say Hi to my girlfriend Faith."

Girlfriend. Faith.

Wait, wait, it's me?

"Oh, hi Faith." Cara fakes a smile and says in a mocking tone. "You should know that your boyfriend is sleeping with another woman every night."

"What is happening?" I ask.

Gideon squeezes my arm tightly, as if saying that he'll explain later.

"Stop messing around, Cara." Gideon says impatiently.

"Or what?" She tempts. "I can tell my brother anytime, and let's see what happens."

"Shit, you're frustrating." I hear him mutter, but I'm sure that Cara can't hear him.

I push Gideon away forcefully, and face Cara. "Since I'm... " I cock my head at Gideon. "he's girlfriend, I would appreciate that you go now before I tear you into pieces."

"Your threat means nothing to me, Faith." Cara spits, all her elegance gone. "and you don't know who I am."

I shrug. "Who cares?" Then I tug Gideon's arm. "Let's go."

He plays along and Cara is left behind. Once we enter the lift, we abruptly drift apart, standing beside each other awkwardly.

The time ticks slowly, but I manage to make it without squirming until the elevator doors slide open.

When I start walking out, a strong hand grips my wrist, causing me to almost trip.

Gideon steadies me as he steps out of the elevator, holding my waist.

"Jesus!" I hiss, scowling. "Don't do that again,"

"Meaning, fake you as my girlfriend or what?" He has the nerve to ask. No wonder that Cara is pissed at him, because for the first time in my life, he's the only oblivious asshole I know.

"Yes, that, but I actually mean for you not to grab me from behind." I say, exhaling a breath I don't realize myself holding.

"I'm sorry." He says.

"That isn't very decent of you,"

He runs his hand into his already messy hair. "Yes, and I'm sorry and grateful that you played along."

"Who's Cara?" I ask out of astonishment.

Gideon's face hardens and he tenses. I know that it's a wrong question at the meantime. And I hope that I can take back my words.
