(Hunters POV)
I Looked around for a way out and spotted a fire escape ladder fixed to the building about 10 feet off the floor above us.
"There!" I pointed to the ladder. "Jennifer give me your gun, Sky give her a boost and I'll boost you up after".
They nodded and Jennifer handed me her pistol and placed her boot on Skyler's entwined hands and Sky hoisted her up so she could grab the bottom rung of the ladder and pull herself up.
"There's no time to lose, get up there" I remarked and boosted Skyler to freedom. She clambered up and I turned my attention to the alley entrance as the first walker stepped into the darkens alley way less than 20 feet away. One clean headshot and it dropped to the floor.
As the rest of the group crowded the entrance pushing their way past each other to get first grabs at me I drew my own pistol and started firing both firearms toward the oncoming cluster of flesh hungry monsters making their way toward me.
With around ten bodies littering the entrance both pistols clicked empty and with no time to reload both I stashed them and ran and jumped off the wall to get the height I needed to reach the first bar of the fire escape. I looked toward the entrance to see the lead set of walkers tripping over the fallen and crawling toward my dangling body. I reached up with my right hand to grasp the second bar and tried to help by trying to get some sort of grip on the wall with my boots as I pulled myself up the ladder and ascended toward the roof where Jen and Skyler were waiting.
As i clambered over the lip of the rooftop Jennifer ran up to me and hugged me tight.
"Thank God your OK" she whispers.
(Skyler's POV)
As Hunter climbed up to join us on the roof I looked down into the alleyway below to see roughly 15 zombies milling about the base of the ladder groaning up at me. I turned and started to inspect the nearby buildings, only two structures stood out among the horizon, the church and another more blocky building.
I called Hunter over and pointed to the second building.
"Looks like a school" he remarked
"Wanna check it out?" I questioned
"No way! That place is more than likely crawling with infected freaks and I'm not about to walk into a deathtrap" Jen stated flatly.
Hunter looked at me and then to Jennifer "well Sky and I are going in, our mission was to find a new place to set up and I think thats as good as we are going to find in this town, if you don't want to come then dont. Wait for that lot down there to clear out and radio Marcus for a pickup" he threw his handheld radio toward her and she plucked it from the air.
Hunter walked to the edge of the rooftop and assessed the gap between our building and the next, took a few steps back, ran toward the edge and with no sign of hesitation jumped across.
(Hunters POV)
As we rounded the corner onto the street where the school was located and sprinted toward the gate we found it padlocked. I glanced backward to see the group of walkers following us advancing at an alarming pace. Skyler grabbed my sleeve
and pulled me off to the right where there was a gap where the fence had come loose from the support beam. We scrambled under and righted ourselves as the lead walkers slammed themselves against the fence behind us.
The field in front of the school had minimal zombies milling about, my guess was that they couldn't get through the fence very well. As we walked toward the main door there was a few maps of the school in a information box to the left. Sky and I both grabbed one each and took a few moments to consult them.
"Woah this place is huge" she remarked awestruck by the sheer number of classrooms and different buildings all connected by walkways.
"I think we have found our new home" I replied with a smile. "But we will have to clear it out first and ensure its safety both inside and out"
