"Aunt Hilda, what are you doing?!?" screamed Olivia.

A tall, messy figure stood waving her wand. "You shall turn into a swan! Nothing can break it, unless you can communicate with a human being!"

"Aunt Hilda!" screamed the petrified girl.

A yellow light shot out from the wand and hit Olivia in the stomach. She opened her mouth to scream - but nothing came out. Instead, there was the "honk!" of a swan, and she tried to run, but it was too late.

Aunt Hilda watched as Olivia started to shrink. Her white maid's dress turned into sparkling white feathers, her nose into a golden shining beak. Olivia's arms transformed into wings, and they flapped about in the small corner that a young maiden had once stood. Instead, there now was a pure white swan in the place of the girl. The swan started to honk desperately.

Cackling, Aunt Hilda picked her up and shoved her roughly into a cage. "There you will stay, until I cook you for the feast, Olivia! Or should I say, Odette?"

Odette flapped her snow white wings around like a mad animal. She honked and honked, calling for help, but none came.

"There you will stay, until the end of your life!"

The swan watched Aunt Hilda with her black eyes. Aunt Hilda went out of the room, still cackling loudly, leaving her alone in the basement. Unnoticed by the witch, Odette shed a single tear. The tear fell onto her beak.

A soft voice whispered in Odette's ear, "Fly out of the window. The cage will open for you."

Odette recognised her mother's voice. "Fly out of the window." Odette lifted her head up and noticed where the spot of sunshine streamed in. "The cage will open for you."

Odette stretched out her wings, and flew. The cage dissolved into a pile of melted silver. Her mother's voice gave her strength.

"Fly out of the window."

She used all her might, and flew up into the air through the window. Odette soared over the sky. She made her way through the clouds, experiencing what it was like to be a bird - a swan. She flew, and flew, away into the world she had never dared to venture into.
