Lily and I hide in the bathroom out of sight as and talk about everything in the letters we sent one another. I tell her about my uncle, the sweet Potters whose hearts I no doubt shattered, why James is pissed at that, also because I broke Sirius, and why I did all of it. Then we're silent for a solid five minutes. We've been talking for so long we're probably nearly late for dinner by now. I'm in the middle of changing in just a tank and underwear, so she's just staring at the mark.

"Wow." Lily breathes and I nod in agreement. "And that's the-"

"Yep." I nod and slip my pants on as her head shakes in disbelief.

"And he said-"

"for Dumbledore, yeah."

"Then you turned down the-"

"Potters to protect them. Right."

"And Sirius-"

"for the same reason."

"Are you going to-"

"let you finish your sentences? Yes. Sorry." I apologize as we both let out quiet laughs. She stares at me with those piercing green eyes for a long moment.

"Well, how are you?" She asks and I blink.

"How am I?" I repeat and she nods, tucking some of that flaming red hair behind her ear.

"Yeah. This has all been so crazy, you've got to be feeling...well. Crazy." I wrangle all my buttons together and do my tie with a long sigh.

"Honestly I just feel so tired. Tired of not understanding, not knowing why, not knowing what's coming next most of all, or if someone else will get hurt." I run my hands over my face before looking back at her. "I know, how about a distraction?" I offer and grab her hand to drag her into the abandoned dorm room as she rolls her eyes. We're both dressed now anyways, minus shoes.

"You can only run from your problems for so long, Arell." She warns but brightens interestedly when I drag out her birdcage hilariously wrapped like a huge tootsie roll from my suitcase.

"The day they catch me is the day I die, so I might as well enjoy the ride. Happy Christmas, Lily." I bid her and she shoots me a scathing look but is quickly ripping apart the paper then filling the compartment with laughter.

"A birdcage for James! Oh, Arell that's so thoughtful of you." She praises and pops up from her seat on her bed to give me a tight hug. "I have something for you that is so perfect." We release as she delves down into her discarded jeans pocket, coming up with a little red box. Smiling and actually happily distracted, I take the box and gingerly open it.

Two earrings lie inside, ear cuffs really, and look like little dragons that are meant to wrap delicately around one's ear. It looks as if the little creatures are whispering to you. "Aw Lily, they're beautiful." I pick one up and instantly affix it to my ear where it perches perfectly. Lily beams and picks up the other.

"I found these at a muggle store and just knew they'd be perfect. So these can be used as walkie-talkies." My eyes widen as hers get more excited. "Just say, Audito, and I'll be able to hear you from a great distance. Not sure how far, but it's more than we had before." She affixes the other onto her ear as I squeeze her free hand.

"They are perfect Lily, it's such a relief to know I'll be able to talk to you." She nods before realizing something.

"Oh, and to turn it off just say silencio. We don't need to hear everything." Lily tells me and I commit both words to memory. "Thank you," I tell her and she nods again before we both rush to shove our shoes and cloaks on.
