Kat’s POV
The endless amount of clothes in my closet never ceased to amazing me. The neat rows of hangers with perfectly organized clothes on them, except for the small messy pile of clothing tucked into the corner. I stare blankly at the clothes, as I search for something warm yet comfortable. I finally choose a grey knitted sweater with a light blue undershirt and boot cut jeans. I heard the click of the front door, as someone entered the room, most likely Kit. I slip into the clothing as I grab some black and white furry boots from the closet shelf. I run to Kit as soon as I get completely dressed and I jump onto her back. “PIGGY BACK RIDE!” I laugh as she runs around with me on her back.
We ended up collapsed on the floor laughing until we ran out of breath. I took gulps of air, still giggling every now as Kit untangled herself from me and got up. That’s when I noticed the stain on her sweater. “You may want to change,” I pointed out with a snort as she looked down at the brown splotch. She agreed and ran to her own closet and then out the door, presumably to the bathroom; she always got stage fright about that kind of thing. I stood up and dusted off my trousers as I waited for her to return, slumping down on the sofa and closing my eyes until I heard her walk back into the room.
She sighed and plopped down next to me, causing me to jar awake from my small rest. “So what are we going to do about the convention?” she asked, “It’s in America. We need tickets for the plane and it’s getting a bit late to register for the event.”
I let out a forced breath and run a hand down my cheek, feeling the stress of being a broke university student settle into my chest. ”I have been saving up for a while,” I said, pausing to look down at my hands, “but I don’t think it’s enough. I mean we still need money for new microphones if we want to look, and sound, like a professional YouTube channel.”
We sat in silence for a while until a thought popped into my head.” Maybe we could get a part time job somewhere? It may help with saving up for the tickets,” I suggest,” And besides, we can get microphones after the convention.”
Kit stared at me for a moment and opened her mouth to speak, but then slammed it shut. I watched her figure out the math in her head before saying, ”I think I have enough for two tickets for the convention but we will still need spending money for then, so maybe I can get a job at the local shop?”
I go over the choices we have in my head. We want to go to the convention but we need the microphones. Both the direct flight and connecting flight tickets are expensive, but hopefully we could scrap some money together. Kit working at the shop would earn us enough for the convention registration, and if we pooled the money from our savings together, we could probably get away with two coach seats.
However, if we both get a job we would have extra spending cash and more money toward the microphones. “I have a better idea; let’s both try and get a job at a local shop! If we do then we can get money for the convention and save a bit more toward microphones!” I said, smiling a bit at my plan.
She laughed and said, ”Yeah we can head over to the shops tomorrow and see if any are hiring.”
I gave her a smile to show my agreement and ran to the kitchen for a quick snack to celebrate. A lovely little Jaffa Cake will do! I heard Kit sneak up behind me, but I was too slow as she grab the Jaffa from my hand and stuffs it into her mouth. I laugh at her stuffed cheeks as I tackle her.
We rough about until I finally decided I needed some real food, and not just a biscuit. I walked back into the kitchen as Kit wandered into her room. I grabbed some crackers from the cabinet and some peanut butter. I spread the peanut butter on the crackers and ate them as they as soon as they were sufficiently covered.
After devouring the great food, which I had cooked myself with amazing skill, I walked over to Kit’s room and knocked on her door, bored and looking for entertainment. Eventually she opened her door to silence my insistent banging, her eyebrow raised in a way as if to say “What do you want?” I smiled at her weird face and started to hop up and down for some over-hyper-active reason and giggled like a manic. Her reaction to that was to slam the door in my face and yell, “Weirdo!”
I laughed and called through the door, “But Kit! We are Kit and Kat! The Kit Kat twins! We’re both weird!”
I could her hear an audible slap from the other side of the door that could only come from a face palm, and then high pitched laughter. ”Yes, yes we are Kat,” she said after opening the door, suddenly deadly serious. There was a look that past between us before we were laughing for what felt like hours, even if in truth it was just a few minutes of utter laughter.
After panting and hugging my knees on the floor, trying to regain some type of composure, I say “Should we check online how much new microphones cost?” She nodded while catching her breath, so I pulled out my phone and typed out a simple search for new microphones. Gosh, expensive much! I decide that thinking about our finances wasn’t something to do when I was in such a good mood. I was glad my roommate was here to make me laugh at nothing; I don’t think I’d ever be anything but stressed it if weren’t for her.
I fling myself up and walk over to the window to see how cold it is outside. Wow it’s chilly, but this sweater is nice and cozy; A walk I shall! “Kit, I’m going on a short walk.” I yell at her as I slip out the door.
I feel invigorated as the cold air hits me and fills my lungs as I reach the outside, and my feet begin to pound the pavement as I raced across the large and open landscape. The noise is soon are silenced as I come to a stop in the grassy area in front of a small store. I continue walking past the shop and down the grassy strip to a large shady tree. I then point myself back toward the house and click the start button for a timer on my phone. All I hear is the sound of my feet flying across the ground as I race toward our dorm.
When I slow to a stop in front of our building, I hit the button once again and I look down at the timer. Wow! New record for me! 10.34 seconds. I know it isn’t a long distance but I am a fast runner so this is great for me. I have to keep fit. Yeah, I’m going to be an extremely buff person. Nope! Never going to happen. But surprisingly, I was a great sprinter, even though I don’t train very regularly.
I open the door and walk over to my room and pull up YouTube to check for comments on our videos; our lovely viewers normally have something nice to say, and it always cheers me up to read their feedback. I click PieceofaKitKatBar, our channel, and spot the latest video. Nope; nothing new just a few more likes I think. Well that’s fine; as long as someone likes our videos, I am happy! I heave a content sigh and stare at the screen a second before refreshing it and getting up to grab some hot cocoa from the kitchen. When I return I see a comment on our video. I start to read it out, “Love your content! I can’t wait for more. <3” I smile and reply to their comment with, “Thanks for the comment! It’s really nice of you to say that. More content will be up soon!” I smile as I click the send button and lean back in my chair.
