I can't believe that it has been five years already. Last time I was only a twelve-year-old girl who spent most of her time in the pool, either practicing with her friends or with her brothers. Now, I will turn seventeen in a few months, I'm gonna start in a new high school to be more exact Iwatobi high, since it is the only one closer to my house, also I don't swim anymore or at least not professionally instead the only sport that I practice and come to love is volleyball, which in my father's eyes is a disgrace.
Yet, as I look outside the taxi window, I realize that Iwatobi still is the same as I remember. Calm, breezy, and friendly. Yet it helps me realize that the one who changed was me. To be honest, I barely remember the streets, yet I know that the new house is in a different neighborhood than my old one, which was across the street from my best friend's house. Now that I mention him I wonder what has been of his life. We used to be inseparable, we were in the swimming club with the rest of our friends and my brother Kaito. My little self had a crush on him, especially those green eyes. Makoto Tachibana, that was his name.I wonder if he is still in town and hopefully, if I meet him again, he will remember me.
I feel my phone vibrate, I take it out of my pocket and I see that it is from the group chat between my brothers and me.
Hey sis did you arrive home safely? How is the house? Do you like it? Sorry that Kairi and I couldn't be there with you.
Kaito, as usual, is acting as our overprotective older brother.
Hey big bro, I'm almost there I think, and don't worry, I understand today, you and Kairi had to finish settling in your dorms. By the way, are you rooming together?.
No sis, even if he is our little brother, I already promised Seijuro to be roommates, after all, it is our last year.
Kaito you left our little brother by himself!! And you Kairi, what do you have to say about that? Because I can see that you have been reading the messages, so why are you not replying
I can't believe Kaito left Kairi by himself. Sure a promise is a promise, especially for those two that have been best friends since they were little, but this is Kairi's first year in high school. Well, I guess I have to go and visit to make sure he is alright.
Sorry, I was talking to my roommate, and couldn't pay much attention to the drama. You know Toru, I'm just a year younger, so why the drama? It is better for me that I don't have to be roommates with Kaito. You know how disorganized he is and also he snores.
Kairi has always been the serious one, that's what I love about him.
Hey!! Kai stop being so mean. I'm your older brother. I deserve a little respect. Anyway, who is your roommate?
His name is Aiichiro Nitori, we are both first-year students.
Cool, I'm happy for you little bro, we should hang out so we can meet each other.
I raised my sight from my phone and saw that we had arrived at my new home. To be sincere, it was big, I mean it had to fit five people in it. Even if for most of the time it is just gonna be me. My parents are in Tokyo since my father works there, and both of my brothers are attending a boarding school, which is not too far from here but still. I looked down at my phone and composed a small text to my brothers letting them know I was home, I got a reply from them just saying okay and good luck. I paid the cab and got down, I grabbed my small bag and headed to the front door. As I open the door, the first thing in view is the living room, most of my things are here already. As I closed the door and left my shoes in the entrance I started walking to the kitchen, two hours in the train got me hungry and low key sleepy. However, I forgot that the fridge and the kitchen cabinets are completely empty. I promised my mom to go grocery shopping when I get here, that's why when we came last week to finish the registration process we decided to not go grocery shopping.
Ugh, forget it, I will go later. I change my route and just walk up the stairs, if I remember correctly my parents and Kairis' room is on the left, bathroom next to the stairs and my room is on the right in front of Kaitos. As I open my door the first thing that catches my eye is the window with the blinds open. I picked this room because I see the back yard, no too much sound from the street and I love it. I drop my bag next to my desk and put my keys on it. I sent a quick text to my mom letting her know that I'm home and that everything is fine. I let down my phone and head to my closet and pull out a change of clothes, that is why I love moving companies. They leave everything well organized. Yet something catches my eyes and is my new uniform, is not that bad I actually kind of like it, except for that green bow tie. I pull out and hang it on the door since tomorrow is the first day of school and it will be my second year of high school.
Anyway, I took my change of clothes and headed to the shower for a quick bath. After what seemed like one hour I got out and put my clothes on, and threw the dirty ones in the washer. When I looked at the clock it was almost five, and I still have an empty stomach and a kitchen with no food, just great! I took my phone and saw that I got a missed call from mom. I should call her later, but first things first, I need to go food shopping. I open google maps and look for the closest grocery store, it looks like it is only a fifteen minute walk. I grabbed my keys, wallet, a hoodie, and went downstairs, put on my shoes, and left for the grocery store.
The whole walk I look around to get familiar with the neighborhood. Once I arrive at the store I pick up a basket and walk forward the aisles. I have to be smart since I can't buy too much stuff because I will not be able to carry it by myself, I would have to come back once my brothers come to visit. As I was walking through the aisles someone bumped into me.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going," a female voice said, as I turned around I saw a girl younger or the same age as me, a little shorter and burgundy hair color.
"Hey, it's okay, no worries," I said with a smile on my face. Yet for some reason, she looks familiar to me
"Sorry to ask, but do I know you?" She said to me with a questioning face
"Funny coincidence, I was gonna ask you the same thing. Your hair looks very similar to the one of my childhood friends"
"My name is Gou Matsuoka, but call me Kou nice to meet you" as soon she said her name, my face became one of shock
"Matsuoka? As in the sister of Rin Matsuoka? Are you that little burgundy girl that was following him?" I ask with shock in my face
"How do you know my brother? Okay, now I'm more confused."
"Gou is me, Toru Umehara you know I used to be one of Rin's childhood friends, we were in the same swimming club, our parents are best friends, also you used to always hang out with my younger brother at the swimming club" I could see the realization on her face
"Omg Toru, I remember now, whoa, you have changed. I remember that before my brother left for Australia he had a crush on you. Didn't you move that same year?" I blush a little when she said that
"Well, I don't know about your brother having a crush on me, but, I did move at the end of that year, it was during winter"
"Are you visiting?"
"Nope, I actually just move back, I will be attending Iwatobi high as a second-year student"
"We are gonna be going to the same school, but it will be my first year"
"I am happy to hear that we can have lunch together sometime. Also, does that mean that Rin will be attending Iwatobi?" As soon I ask that question I could see the discomfort on her face
"No, he is going to a different school... look at the time, sorry Toru but I have to get going. I will see you tomorrow. Bye"
"Mmmm okay Gou, see you"
"Is Kou!" and just like that, she disappeared in the aisles. I just stood there a little confused from her reaction. Maybe they don't have a close relationship as before, who knows.
I finish getting what I need, pay a left to go home. Once I arrive, I put the groceries away, make one InstaRamen, and go to my room to eat my dinner while I watch a movie on my laptop. As the movie finished, it was nine, so I decided to close my laptop and started to pack my school supplies for tomorrow. After I was done, I changed into my pajamas and went to bed. As I'm laying there looking at the ceiling, my mind started to wonder how my first day of school would be? At least I know someone at the school even if she is not from my same class. What surprises would it bring tomorrow? And with that last thought, I fall asleep.
